Causes of diabetic retinopathy

According to the University of Michigan
Kellog eye center 2015, the sole cause of diabetic retinopathy is an unusually
high blood sugar level that is sustained for a long period of time. Even
amongst diabetics who have been earlier diagnosed, some get negligent of the
regular blood sugar level checks which could be as a result of the continuous
pain of the needle pricks which are necessary to obtain blood for the
diagnosis, this could also be as a result of dependence of the patient on a
particular new treatment that may have been prescribed by a friend or a doctor
which may lead the patient to believe he/she can now enjoy delicacies which was
hither to prohibited and not bother to carry out regular checks of the sugar
level. Unusually high levels of sugar accumulates in blood vessels including
those found in the eyes which causes damage to them and hampers blood flow to
this very vital organ.
