Position: Delivery Driver (not AZ driver) — $13/hr
Organization: Textbooks for Change
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
We are currently looking for a driver to pick up and deliver textbooks to our
Ottawa consolidation centre.
If you’re looking to work for a social enterprise in an independent workspace
with great opportunity for growth, then this is the job you’ve been searching
for.
About Textbooks for Change:
Textbooks for Change is a social venture and B Corp that provides affordable
and accessible educational material to students both locally and abroad.
We repurpose used textbooks to create social impact and improve the educational
landscape for students around the world. We do this by:
• Donating thousands of post-secondary textbooks to Kenyan universities
annually.
• Selling affordable used textbooks to North American students and using
proceeds to help fund student-led impact initiatives.
• Diverting thousands of textbooks from landfills by recycling them
efficiently.
Scope of the Position:
Delivery drivers are responsible for driving to various post-secondary
institutions in Eastern Ontario (Ottawa and Kingston) and Montreal to collect
donated textbooks. Once donations are collected, textbooks are delivered to our
Ottawa consolidation centre where they will be packaged for shipment to our
fulfilment centre in Hamilton. Drivers must ensure that they have the correct
addresses of each institution and must stay in contact with dispatchers for
additional pickups. It is their duty to clean and maintain the delivery vehicle
and dropbox locations and to ensure the safe delivery of textbooks without any
delay or damage.
Once the amount of textbooks in our consolidation centre reaches a critical
mass, our logistics team will coordinate LTL shipment to Hamilton. The driver
must arrive at the consolidation centre at a designated time, meet with our
shipping partners, and, using a pallet jack, haul the pallets to the loading
dock.
This is a part-time position, roughly 20-25 hours per week. Hours may increase
during our peak seasons. There is also the opportunity for this position to
grow into a coordination and logistics role.

for mileage and fuel.

• Track trip information such as vehicle mileage, cargo quantity, and any

• Minor warehouse duties (building up and packaging pallets for shipment)
• Perform light maintenance on dropboxes (materials will be provided)
• Report to logistics manager, maintaining clear communication channels and
alerting logistics manager of any problems, concerns, questions, suggestions,
etc.
• Liaise with our shipping partners when they arrive at the consolidation
centre; ensure successful shipment of textbooks
• Keep consolidation centre clean and organized
• Organizing weekly vehicle rentals
