The Project Planner will collaborate with the Program Lead, Outreach
and Engagement to further the goals of the UAlberta Green Labs
Program, which includes working with staff from across the University
of Alberta to execute the development, production, coordination and
delivery of the Green Labs initiative.
Duties
• Develops Green Labs practices, protocols and procedures
• Develops, coordinates and delivers Shut the Sash programming,
including outreach planning, communications collateral, reporting,
measurement and evaluation
• Develops and implements a “Model Green Labs Program” and Green Labs
Fund Program
• Coordinates Green Labs Reference Team and related meetings
• Develops and implements a communication and outreach
strategy/campaign to influence chairs, deans, principal investigators,
lab coordinators, and lab techs to value and support best practices in
labs related to safety and ecological footprint
• Prepares written reports summarizing findings explaining and
quantifying various aspects of buildings for use in communications
materials (e.g. brochures, websites, etc.)
• Interfaces with UAlberta’s representatives connect to IS2L and the
American Universities Green Lab Working Group
• Researches new programs and initiatives and evaluates potential
implementation within the UAlberta Green Labs Program
• Collaborates with Energy Management & Sustainable Operations leaders
of Envision, the university’s energy management program on initiatives
related to water, energy and GHG reduction
• Profiles and supports Green Spaces certification for labs that
includes access to lab visits by Office of Sustainability staff or lab
leaders
• Develops and manages a network of green lab leaders/users
• Conducts community needs assessments by surveying and hosting
focusing groups, completing informational interviews, gathering
baseline information and surveying current programs and resources at
UAlberta and other organizations
• Develops feasibility studies and implementation plans of projects to
green labs at UAlberta in collaboration with Energy Management &
Sustainable Operations
• Performs other duties upon request (e.g. tabling outreach events,
assisting with facilitation at workshops, assistance with
speech-writing, etc.)
Qualifications
• The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental
Studies, Business, Sciences or Education; equivalent combinations of
education and experience will be considered
• Minimum 3 years relevant professional experience working in an
office environment
• Experience working in labs and knowledge energy and water use in
labs and related equipment
• Knowledge of campus Sustainability, including Sustainability Plan
• Understanding of interactions between power delivery, power
consumption, heat extraction, water conservation and energy
conservation
• Proficiency and experience with MS Office required (advanced Excel
skills preferred)
• Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills, with ability to
develop strong relationships
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to speak,
present and provide orientations and technical training workshops in
front of a large group
• Energetic, detail-oriented and able to prioritize
• Excellent judgment, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of construction practices preferred
• Ability to work well under pressure with proactive approach to
routine and non-routine occurrences
• Advanced organizational and attention to detail skills
