Reporting to the Design Supervisor of Facilities Engineering, the successful candidate will provide engineering services including design and technical support for the North Warning system (NWS) Project.
Major Responsibilities:
* Ensure the long-term serviceability of NWS grounds, including foundations for building and bulk fuel storage tanks, roads, helipads, runways and excavation/backfill of contaminated soils
* Review, prepare and develop erosion prevention plans, failure analysis, engineering designs and Preventative Maintenance Inspection plans (PMI’s)
* Develop Additional Work Requirement (AWR) project files including scope and justification, business case analysis, risk and impact analysis, preliminary and final designs and preliminary and final costing estimates
* Prepare and complete engineering designs for projects on the approved Five Year Business Plan (FYBP) and brief projects at technical design review meetings
* Apply the knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, groundwater conditions, foundation engineering and construction techniques to building foundations, excavation methods, earth dams and embankments, foundations for pavements, floor slabs and other relevant aspects of construction work
This position will be required to travel to the Arctic periodically to perform engineering inspections and design research and to conduct site visits at the NWS northern sites (average of 3 to 4 weeks per year).
Education/Skills/Qualifications:
* Degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology
* Currently registered as a P.Eng in Ontario, or ability to obtain the professional designation within one year from hire date
* Minimum five years’ related experience in earth work and environmental remediation, preferably in cold weather environments
* Thorough working knowledge of geotechnical/materials engineering and familiar with the National Masters Specification (NMS)
* PMP designation an asset
* Strong report writing and verbal communication skills
* Adaptability, ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-culturally
* The incumbent must have a valid driver’s license, be eligible for SECRET security clearance, and pass a company pre-employment medical
