Org. Setting and Reporting
ICTR Website management and Production/Layout/Distribution of media aids Sub-Cluster within the Communication Cluster of the External Relations and Strategic Planning Section, which is part of the Immediate Office of the Registrar of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Public Information Officer , Head or Officer-in-Charge of the Communication Cluster and the overall supervision of the Chief of the External Relations & Strategic Planning Section, the incumbent’s major duties and responsibilities shall be as follows:
1. Provide administrative management of the ICTR website consisting of a comprehensive range of web pages. Update WebPages. Reformat and upload new documents. Maintain website and files.
2. Coordinate, integrate and manage information contributed to the web site.
3. Establish and maintain web site directory structures, configuration files and content files.
4. Write clearly, type, layout press releases /media alerts/press briefings and updates in English and French. Distribute information by e-mail and fax. Upload them on the website. Maintain e-mail mailing list.
5. Prepare and layout monthly ICTR Newsletter using suitable desk top publishing
software: Send out request for contributions; collect and edit articles, take or scan
photographs/diagrams, analyze and summarize the data, discuss with the Editors.
Proofread the final copy. Disseminate final approved copy via e-mail; upload on the
website; print hard copies for distribution to senior officials.
6. Prepare information packages including press releases , media packets, brochures and newsletters. Print, collate and arrange in folders for distribution to Staff
Members/Press/researchers/members of the public.
7. Gather information from diverse sources and help to assess news value.
8. Organize clearance, production and distribution of information material.
9. Provide principal photographic coverage and documentation of ICTR’s activities.
10. Photograph, edit and assist in design of print/web/digital productions.
11. Edit and archive photographs and deal with photographic and video requests from
international and local media organizations.
12. Be responsible for photo equipment.
13. Manage requests for visits/interviews/information. Provide briefings/public information to visitors.
Organize interviews with relevant parties, prepare information packages for visitors. Handle information and document requests by e-mail, telephone, fax and courier. Browse the internet, electronic and printed media for articles on the ICTR and incorporate them in weekly media reviews. Distribute the same by e-mail.
14. Process accreditation for the Press. Check attachments are valid, get them certified and forward to Security & Safety Section for processing. Facilitate Security clearance for
visitors and the media.
15. The incumbent will be expected to work independently with only periodic review by the supervisor. Instructions and guidance are provided for difficult or unusual assignments. Work such as the Newsletter, press releases , media alerts, brochures and publications or a new web page will be checked for accuracy upon completion.

Education
Completion of Secondary Education is required. Further College or University’s education or training in journalism, desk top publishing, website management will be highly desirable.
Work Experience
At least 8 years of relevant experience with knowledge of journalism, web editing and desktop publishing packages; knowledge on how to operate a digital camera, download and edit photos and create, archive and maintain a photo database; knowledge of photo editing package like PhotoShop; operation of a scanner with full proficiency in computer skills eg. word processing, PowerPoint, graphics software, internet, internal databases; interpersonal skills, good research, analytical, problem-solving and draft skills.
Languages
English and French are the working Languages of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Good working knowledge of French is highly desirable.
Assessment Method
The candidate will be evaluated based on the eligibility criteria, competency-based interview and technical know-how.
