This
position is responsible for the direct supervision of the Park team staff on a
day-to-day basis. This individual will liaise with the Events staff during the
planning, set-up and strike of exterior events to ensure a smooth operation
with minimal impact to the overall operation at Downsview Park. This individu

is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of grounds maintenance including
but not limited to maintaining gardens, turf, grounds, snow removal is
completed in a safe and efficient manner. The position will also be responsible
for having oversight of equipment maintenance, maintenance of site furniture,
seasonal displays and winter maintenance.
- Provides
direct supervision and training of Park Technicians, Summer Students and
related contractors. - Directly
assigns workload for Park Technicians and summer students. - Ensures
that all Park Technicians and Summer Students are current with all health
and safety training and requirements. - Directly
oversees with a “hands on” approach where necessary: all landscaping
(hardscaping and softscaping) design and installation, installation and
maintenance of new and existing irrigation systems, all turf and field
maintenance (i.e. fertilizing, aerating, watering, etc.), creation and
implementation of all garden and seasonal planters design, installation
and maintenance, the maintenance and repairs of the Park equipment (i.e.
vehicles, chainsaws, lawnmowers, etc.) General park maintenance such as
litter pick up, cleaning, painting, and other related maintenance. - Maintains
horticultural displays. - Maintains
and nurtures an evolving urban forest. - Maintain
park turf areas using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles. - Installation
and maintenance of park furnishings as required. - Placement
and maintenance of signage and banners. - Winter
maintenance such as snow clearing. - Other
duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must
have post secondary education or accreditation in related horticulture,
park, or landscape field. - Must
have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the related field. - Must
possess and maintain valid “G” and “D” licenses. - Must
have a current knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. - Good
written and verbal communication skills. - Computer
competent skills, Word, Excel, Outlook. - Availability
to work flexible hours and occasional weekends as required. - Attention
to detail. - Must
be a team player that is supportive of colleges and embraces a
collaborative approach to problem solving.
