Downsview
Park currently has job opportunity for Park Staff to assist in Park Operations.
This is a full time regular position. Candidates must

be living in or around
Toronto area.

Reporting
to the Manager of Parks, the Park Staff will be responsible for all
Horticulture aspects of Downsview Park. This includes planning, maintenance,
design and implementation. As well as scheduled and day to day operational
activities within current service standards, Safe Work Methods and Standard
Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintenance
    of horticultural displays, including planting, weeding, watering,
    cultivation and pruning.
  • Landscape
    (hardscaping and softscaping) design and installation.
  • Plant
    Identification.
  • Shift
    work may be required including weekend and evening work.
  • Watering,
    installing new and utilizing current irrigation systems.
  • Grass
    cutting and field maintenance (fertilizing, aerating, etc.)
  • Maintenance
    of drainage systems, LIDs and bio swales.
  • IPM
    knowledge.
  • Garden
    design and seasonal planters.
  • Lead,
    train and guide seasonal staff members.
  • Installation
    and maintenance of park furnishings.
  • Operate
    and maintain a variety of park maintenance equipment.
  • General
    park maintenance such as litter pick up, cleaning, painting, and other
    related maintenance.
  • Construction
    and maintenance of hardscapes.
  • Other
    duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary
    education or accreditation in related horticulture, park, or landscape
    field.
  • Must
    have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the related field.
  • Competency
    in CAD programs related to horticulture considered and asset.
  • Basic
    computer skills – Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Must
    possess and maintain a valid G license.
  • Must
    have a current knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Ability
    to work flexible hours, weekends as required.
  • Pesticide
    Sprayers License considered an Asset.
