Organizational Profile
The Akilah Institute for women is
the only higher education institute dedicated exclusively to women in Rwanda.
The goal of Akilah is to empower young women by connecting them directly to the
economy through training entrepreneurship and hospitality and tourism industry.
Akilah compliments the relevant training with an emphasis in the development of
life skills, leadership and communication skills. Through empowerment and
personal development programmes, Akilah provides young Rwandans with a unique
college experience. As global investors and business community seek to employ
thousands of well trained professional to staff hotels, restaurants and tour
companies, Akilah aims at providing them with an equipped workforce. In August
2012, the first ever graduating class of 39 all received job placements.
Overall Responsibilities
Career Development Officer (CDO) is
an important member of the Akilah team, working closely with the Academic
Director to facilitate all the students with necessary skills to make sure they
are fully equipped to complete their required internships, and launch their
careers after graduation. The CDO is the critical link between the Institute
and our private sector partners.
She/he will be responsible for
providing information and assistance to students who are interested in Career
Planning and Development. Providing adequate skills will ensure that Career
Development students have access to information and resources they need to make
appropriate choices about training and employment.
Specific Responsibilities
  1. Operate Career Resource Center
    1. Provide information and assistance about career
      development, career search and career options to current students
    2. Interview students to obtain employment history,
      education, and career goals
    3. Assist students to establish career goals and action
      plan
    4. Administer and interpret tests designed to determine
      the interests, aptitudes, and abilities of clients
    5. Maintain ongoing communications with students and hold
      regular meetings to review files and progress
    6. Assist students with job readiness skills, writing
      resumes, mock interviews
    7. Rigorously document all relevant student and partner
      information in institute database
  1. Develop and nurture private sector partnerships
    1. Work closely with relevant private sector partners to
      identify internship and job opportunities and provide labor market
      information to students regarding job openings, skills requirements, and
      other occupational information
    2. Plan and participate in career fairs and other
      community activities
    3. Assist employers to find student with relevant
      skillset for their hiring needs
    4. Regularly meet with private sector partners to receive
      feedback on student performance
Qualifications
-Fluent in Kinyarwanda
-A minimum of 5 years professional
work experience
-Understanding of the legislation,
policies and procedures for employment, training and career development
-Established contacts within the
Rwandan private sector and business community
-A passion for the Akilah mission
and working in a women’s educational institute
-University degree in any field
-Excellent interpersonal skills
