Position Description:
Our client Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) is a Tanzanian public referral
hospital with a mission to provide effective, efficient and high quality
tertiary specialist medical services for referred patients from all areas of

To fulfill its mission in the Emergency Medicine Department (EMD)MNH has collaborated
with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) and Abbott Fund Tanzania
(AFT) and “to pilot a new framework for delivery of the highest standards of
care to all patients in a sustainable way within the existing public health
care setting in Tanzania”. The EMD is the leader in Tanzania and East Africa
for Medical and Nurse training, development and research. To sustain and grow
in success MNH has embarked on a path to establish sustainability. This

Business Manager- Emergency Medical Department (EMD)


MNH seeks to appoint a Business Manager EMD to play a leading role in the
operational management of the EMD to achieve its sustainability plan. The EMD
is leading the way nationally and regionally in clinical practice, training and
research. It is looking for an experienced business leader, who can take an
energetic and motivated team to the next level.


The Business Manager is responsible for developing and implementing internal
procedures in the Business Unit (BU), related to financial management,
accounting, procurement, inventory management and marketing in collaboration
with Muhimbili National Hospital administration and processes. This role
reports to the Head of Department EMD and supervises the EMD Accountant,
Procurement Officer and Health Records Assistants.

Roles and Responsibilities
Set goals and objectives and establish internal operating procedures for
finance, accounting, procurement, and inventory management in the BU in
cooperation with other managers designated to achieve efficient BU operation
and maximum service to patients of the BU;
Management of Resources-lead and manage both the physical and human resources
particularly related to finance;
Financial Management-play a key role in budgeting, controlling costs, studying
business forecasts, sales reports and financial statements and finding ways to
maximize results and keep the BU on track financially;
Procurement and Inventory Management-Supervise the procurement, inventory and
store management function of the BU. Ensure that supply chain and other
resources are adequately managed to minimize costs of production;
Administration, direction and coordination of the BU’s business activities for
the purpose of attaining financial stability;
Identify and establish partnerships with private health facilities, for the
sustainability plan;
Design and prepare relevant business reports with regular reporting mechanism,
for senior management to assist in decision making;
Lead and develop staff capable of delivering on the mandate of the department;
Administrative affairs and patients’ services, monitoring and controlling
subordinate employees’ orientation, job training, and continuous minimum
qualification;
Report any concerns of fraud or theft to direct supervisor; and
Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the H.o.D.

Qualifications and experience required
A degree or equivalent qualifications in medicine, finance, or health
administration with postgraduate qualifications in management, medicine, health
administration or public health;
Minimum of 5 years experience in a relevant in field such as accounting,
finance or business is acceptable. Experience in health administration will be
an added advantage;
Excellent communication and teamwork skills; and
Proven knowledge and competence in computer skills (Microsoft word, excel,
power point).
An attractive remuneration package and allowances will be offered to the
