Young Women’s Christian
Association (YWCA – Rwanda) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization
that works at the grassroots level. It’s a volunteer membership organisation
for women. It was established in Rwanda in February 1995, following the
genocide and in the response to the rising concern for the many widows and
children left in its wake. YWCA Rwanda was legally recognised by the Rwandan
Government in September 2005 as Non-Governmental organisation which operates in
11 Districts of Rwanda. The Vision of YWCA is “A world where all women live
free from poverty and where they and their rights are respected”. Based on the
core values of EMPOWERMENT, EXCELLENCE, INTEGRITY, LEADERSHIP, and PARTNERSHIP;
the following mission helps to achieve the vision: “To develop the leadership
and collective power of women and girls in Rwanda to achieve high quality
education, health and socio-economic conditions for themselves, their families,

YWCA Rwanda has recently entered into a new
partnership with CHF to deliver the USAID funded Higa Ubeho Programme in
Kayonza and Ngoma Districts. The program aims to support some of Rwanda’s most
vulnerable households by –increasing their access to health and social services
and providing economic, nutritional and educational support. Key to the
programme will be developing Savings and Lending Schemes, Farmer Field Schools
and Nutritional advice through Positive Deviance health Groups.
It’s in this regard YWCA Rwanda is issuing a
call for job vacancy recruitment to the following posts (This recruitment
programme is still subject to final grant approval):
  1. YWCA
    Rwanda – CHF/USAID Higa Ubeho – Economic Strengthening Officer ( 3 posts)
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • To develop
    Internal and Savings Groups and Farmer Field Schools with targeted
    beneficiaries in the USAID Higa Ubeho programme areas of KAYONZA and Ngoma
  • To conduct
    local need assessments and identity beneficiaries for membership in ISLGs 
  • To
    sensitize and promote a savings culture among community members to promote
    ISLGs
  • To provide
    training and support to ISLGs on their efficient and effective
    implementation
  • To provide
    business training, advice and support to promote the development of
    sustainable businesses emerging from the ISLGs
  • To
    facilitate  linkages and relationship between the beneficiaries and
    financial institutions (MFIs) and Umurenge Sacco
  • To develop
    adult and  junior Farmer Field Schools;  To organize the training of Farmer Field
    School leaders on the Farmer Field School approach and on bio-intensive
    agriculture techniques including:  water and soil conservation,
    composting, preparation of the soil, control of pests and disease etc.
  • To support
    groups to increase and enhance their food security through demonstration
    activities, linkages to input distributors and through the sharing and
    learning of good practice;  To share
    new technologies on fortified seed varieties and other seeds of high
    nutritional value among beneficiaries and follow multiplication activities
    of fortified seeds and other seeds of high nutritional value.
  • To work
    closely with district and sector agronomists, leaders of groups
    (cooperatives, associations, field schools) in the identification of crops
    adapted to the region, having great nutritional or economic value for
    production in identified markets; To collaborate with the staff responsible
    for nutritional education to improve food security at the household level
  • To be
    responsible for monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the programme
    activities and impact
Qualifications and Experience
  • University
    Degree (A0) in Economics, Agriculture, Social sciences and related fields
  • Be highly
    motivated, keen to learn and have a real interest in field work
  • Be familiar
    with adult learning methodologies.
  • Be familiar
    with field experimentation.
  • Must be
    willing to be based / work in the field on a regular basis.
  • Has
    knowledge and familiarity dealing with information tools, writing reports
    and creating tables.
  • Be fluent
    in English, and Kinyarwanda, French is an added value
