Role
overview

1. Communications Plan
In close collaboration with VSO global communications team, the CO will develop
and regularly update VSO Rwanda communications plan, to ensure effective
engagement with partners and steady growth in VSO’s visibility and brand
awareness within Rwanda and wider context. The communications plan will include
among others external and internal communications plan, media engagement plan,
social media engagement plan, knowledge management plan, visibility and marketing
plan.
2. External Communications
The CO will help VSO to communicate to external stakeholders, by succinctly
presenting program information in a way that resonates with key partners. This
include preparing regular reports and catchy newsletters. The CO will develop
& manage content, style and frequency of external communications with VSO
partners including government, donors, other NGOs, districts and local
partners. The CO will ensure VSO programmes are well represented at national
platforms and other relevant networks. In essence, the CO will ensure effective
external collaborations through communications.
3. Media Engagement
The CO will help VSO to improve the focus, quality and frequency of media
engagement in Rwanda; strengthen VSO’s relationships with key members of the
media; and interpret strategic direction and vision communicated by VSO
leadership to identify media objectives. This will include press releases,
publications, TV and Radio shows and Newspaper articles. The CO will develop
content and manage social media engagement through VSO official Facebook,
Twitter and linked-in accounts. The CO will ensure regular press briefings and
engagement of media about VSO Rwanda programme progress.
4. Documentation
The CO will ensure regular documentaries by organising story gathering and
photo shooting events with primary actors, volunteers and VSO partners. The CO
will to develop and manage an extensive library of videos, photography, and
project documentaries including short project videos. The CO will maintain an
accessible photo archives on SharePoint and ensure VSO properly documents its
training events and workshops. The CO will work closely with M&E Advisor to
develop a proper documentation guidelines for staff, volunteers and partners to
use in documenting successes and lessons learned.
5. Communications Materials
The CO will develop and ensure effective use of communications materials
including but not limited to: success stories, press releases, brochures,
presentations, speeches, videos, factsheets, booklets, talking points, adverts
and other additional marketing and visibility materials.
6. High profile events
The CO will coordinate all VSO high profile events including donor visits, VSO
global team visits and government of Rwanda senior officials visits to VSO
programmes. The CO will also coordinate VSO participation during celebration of
International events. This will require CO to conduct regular field visits to
VSO programmes to deepen their understanding of programmes and hence be able to
represent it effectively. It will require even closer collaboration with VSO
global communications team.
7. Internal communications
The CO will help VSO Rwanda to develop and effectively manage the content and
style of internal communications with staff and volunteers. This will include
senior management communications, departmental communications and
communications between country office with region and global.
8. Knowledge management
The CO will work with M&E Advisor to develop an effective knowledge management
system which ensures that the knowledge generated form VSO Rwanda is easily
accessible and usable by VSO staff and volunteers, through use of digital tools
and cloud systems which are increasingly available.
Skills,
qualifications and experience required

We are seeking exceptional professionals with 3-5 years of work experience, and
a demonstrated long-term passion for development work. We are looking for
someone with leadership potential who is comfortable working independently.
Candidates who fit the following criteria are strongly encouraged to apply:
  • Work
    Experience:

    Candidates should have 3-5 years of strong work experience in
    communications and/or journalism. This experience should include the
    design of communication strategies, assembly of engaging communicating
    materials, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative information to
    produce analytical reports.
  • Education:
    Undergraduate background at a top Rwandan or international university.
    Bachelors or higher in Media, Communication, and Development is preferred;
  • Attitude:
    We are looking for passionate professionals who combine strong leadership
    skills with patience, and a humble approach to service to join our growing
    family of leaders.
  • Social
    Media Management:
    2+ years creating and managing social
    media content
  • Other
    Skills:

    Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; expert Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge
    of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat is an added plus.
  • Excellent
    organizational skills and ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated
    ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Language:
    Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda required; French is a bonus.
  • Passion:
    Passionate and innovative about bringing new ideas to life
