NATIONAL WATER CENTRE COMMUNICATIONS INTERN 2015

The National Water Centre is a water-oriented private arts and
education facility in Canada’s oldest city. Inspired by the work of
Waterkeepers and other grassroots water stewards, the centre promotes
swimmable, drinkable, fishable water through community-building,
information sharing, research, and leadership development.

The National Water Centre’s location on the Kennebecasis River with
access to the water, walking trails, and proximity to the Bay of Fundy
means that guests visiting from other parts of Canada will have an
opportunity to enjoy freshwater and marine environments.

NWC Communications Intern Position:

As a Communications Intern, you will help to maintain the National
Water Centre’s website and social media presence. You will provide
information about the activities of the Centre, and help share stories
about the groups and individuals that are working across the country
to create a more swimmable, drinkable, fishable future. You will also
help build local connections with people, groups, and businesses who
use are connected to the mission of the National Water Centre. You
will be encouraged to attend events throughout the summer to make
connections within the local community with groups and individuals
interested in being part of our national movement.

You will also get the opportunity to help hold a Summit at the
National Water Centre that will bring together leaders from across the
country to explore their personal connection to water. This summit is
part of the Watermark Project – Waterkeeper’s newest initiative that
seeks to collect and document Canadian’s water stories in a digital
archive.

Description of Responsibilities
• Help create content for the NWC website and social media accounts
• Find and share relevant stories, articles, images from the NWC account
• Increase the NWC’s social media following and website traffic
• Help to execute and document a Summit at the National Water Centre

Mandatory Experience/ Qualifications
• Strong writing and communications skills
• Experience with website management, including posting blog posts and
basic image editing
• Experience using Twitter, building an audience, and basic
understanding of social media analytics
• Interest in marketing and public engagement
• Knowledgeable or willing to learn about environmental and water issues
• Must be a full-time student returning to school in the fall
• Must be between the ages of 15 and 30
