Type: full-time internship with room & board, stipend, more (see below)
Organization: Shaws Creek Farm
Location: Caledon/Peel/GTA, Ontario
We are seeking a full-time, full-season intern for the 2016 season.
We are looking for someone happy and able to commit a minimum of 40hrs/week
from June-October inclusive.
Basic room and board available as well as a stipend. We plan to join the CRAFT
farm network this year, so interns will have an opportunity to learn from many
farmers.
We are a workers co-operative, located at Whole Village Eco-village which is
situated on 200 acres of beautiful rolling pasture, wetland, maple surgar bush
and crop land. We have a pond for swimming, trails for walks and are located
within a 7min car ride, or 40min bike to Erin, Orangeville, or Alton. Living
at, and as a part of, an eco-village gives our interns a unique oppurtunity to
experiance intentional community and see collective farm efforts in action.
Interns have access to a large group of folks with diverse interests and
experiance, not to mention a great collective library!
Shaws Creek Farm Co-operative is an ecologically-grown (organic standards, but
not certified) vegetable farm, with a focus on Community Supported Agriculture
(CSA) boxes. We also sell at a local weekly market, and are developing our on
property farm store. On the Whole Village property we also involve ourselves
with 30+ laying hens, 2 great dairy cows and a maple surgar bush. A portion of
this internship also includes spending some of your work hours each week doing
childcare with a sweet 3 year old (or two!), as part of our community based
framework.
At Shaws Creek Farm, we make food justice, feminism, an anti-oppression
framework and honoring ecological inter-connectedness (and a constant process
of learning what all of these mean and deepening our commitment to these
values) a priority through our work.
