The National Farmers Union (NFU) is a non-partisan, democratic organization
made up of farm families and concerned citizens from across Canada. The NFU
advocates for policies designed to raise net farm incomes by working towards a
food system that is built on a foundation of fina
ncially-viable family farms.
We support social and economic justice for food producers and eaters.
The NFU is currently looking for a contractor to fill the position of
Membership Development Trainer and deliver the following as part of a larger
capacity-building project:
Main Deliverables:
• Develop, conduct and evaluate a series of workshops, including one on
November 29, 2015 at the NFU National Convention in London ON, to provide
leadership training for volunteers to assist them in organizing members and
potential members in their local areas.
• A standard participatory event format (“Kitchen Table” meeting) for volunteers
to organize to promote local engagement with the NFU, developed in
collaboration with the project’s Educational Resources Developer.
• A tool kit to support NFU members’ membership recruitment.
• A process for welcoming and engaging new members
• Entry and exit surveys for a pilot project offering introductory one-year
electronic membership, with monthly collation and analysis of survey and
recommendations forincreasing pilot project success.
The successful contractor must have:
• Experience working with volunteer-driven non-profit membership organizations
• Experience planning and implementing projects
• Experience in using adult education principles and processes
• Excellent facilitation skills
• Excellent written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to use distance education communication methods such as
webcasts, screen casts, video and recorded teleconferencing
• Proven ability to meet deadlines and work within approved budgets
• A willingness and ability to travel
• Fluency in French will be considered an asset
The role is that of an independent contractor, which requires the successful
candidate to provide invoices and to manage their own tax remittances. This is
a short-term contract (until December 15, 2015) with flexible location
(anywhere in Canada).
