Scholarship Description: The University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow are proud to
jointly offer the Mac Robertson Scholarship. Each scholar will be required
to produce a report on his/her studies under the scholarship. The purpose of
these reports is to show how the scholarship has enhanced scholars’ research
experience and provide Mac Robertson, our donor, with an update on his
investment.
Duration of award(s): An individual scholarship will last for up to a maximum of one year from
the date of the award (normally from the June of the award year) or from

What does it cover? The Scholarship award will consist of travel costs plus subsistence up

based on subsistence allowances for University of Glasgow employees abroad. The
number and value of the awards allocated each year will be at the discretion of
the Panel. Individual Scholarships are unlikely to exceed £4,000.
Selection Criteria: The prestigious Mac Robertson Scholarship is hotly contested and a
high number of applications are received each year. The following will be taken
into account when assessing applications:
-Eligibility – the scholar must comply with all eligibility criteria.
-The research to be undertaken should be additional to and not essential to the
completion of the applicant’s research degree.
-Evidence of collaboration between Strathclyde and Glasgow in the research
being carried out would be advantageous.
-Evidence of an innovative proposal and/or initiative taken by the student to
build relationships with international experts or forge links with world class
facilities.
-Evidence that the proposed project/travel would benefit the applicant’s
School/Research Institute.
-Clear evidence of communication with the host institution (e.g. welcome
letter/letter of endorsement).
How to Apply: Electronic submission is essential. Hard copy applications will not be accepted. Applicants
must indicate how their current research is being funded (i.e. University

understanding of the student’s financial situation. Students in receipts of
external funding are still eligible to apply.
