Officials said that a lawyer, Musibau Adetunbi from Ibadan, and his driver, kidnapped on Monday, have been released.
On Monday, the duo had been abducted by unknown gunmen but on Wednesday they were back at liberty.
On their way to the Appeals Court in the capital of Ondo, Akure, they were kidnapped in Iwaraya, Osun State.
However, Oluwole Akintayo, chairman of Ibadan branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), confirmed their release Thursday morning and did not indicate whether the ransom was paid or not to secure their release.
But, Mr Akintayo said the duo was released in Osun State on Wednesday night.
The chairman of the NBA stated that the chamber head (law) where Mr Adetunbi works “is also conscious of his release.”
“We appreciate your support. God bless, they were released on Wednesday, you know they were abducted in Osun, they were released last night (Wednesday).” Our colleague has been set free with his driver.
“They were released, I can tell you authoritatively. The chamber head has also confirmed that they had been released.”
He said he did not know whether or not some money exchanged hands between the families and the kidnappers.
“I don’t have the details, unfortunately,” he said.
The attempt to obtain a response from the family was unsuccessful since the wife of the lawyer did not answer the call in search of further confirmation.
Efforts to get the Osun State Police Command spokesman’s reaction were also unsuccessful as several calls were not answered to the Police Public Relations Officer’s known telephone line in the state, Folasade Odoro.
