IMA World Health is
seeking a Senior Malaria Specialist to be proposed as a key position for the
Tanzania Comprehensive Health Services Delivery (CHSD) Southern project. The
purpose of CHSD Southern is to support the recipients’ intervention and
assistance to the Governmen
t of Tanzania (GOT) to increase access to high
quality, comprehensive and integrated health services, especially for women and
youth, with a focus on maternal, neonatal, child and reproductive health and
nutrition outcomes. These activities should cover geographic areas with the
highest disease burden across the following regions: Iringa, Ruvuma, Morogoro,
Lindi, and Mtwara. Iringa is a key region in which USAID/Tanzania is targeting
and integrating efforts across its multiple sectors to help achieve its Country
Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS) result. The Senior Malaria Specialist
will answer directly to the Technical Director while working in close
collaboration with the project’s technical staff.
Duties:
- Provide
overall supervision of project activities, including management of
personnel and subcontractors in relation to the malaria activities - Support
the delivery of antenatal and postnatal care and integrated community case
management (iCCM) of malaria - Strengthening
malaria prevention and care in pregnant women through continued use of
intermittent preventive treatment for pregnant women (IPTp), improving
malaria case management capabilities, including use of Artemisinin-based
combination therapies (ACTs) and rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) - Support
key malaria intervention areas including distribution of and use of
insecticide treat nets (ITNs), intermittent preventative treatment for
pregnant women, and integrated case management of severely ill children
including the improvement of malaria diagnosis and treatment - Manage
quality and timely reporting to USAID through monthly, quarterly and
annual reports - In
collaboration with the project’s M&E Specialist, monitor project
results and is responsible for ensuring that the project provides high
quality services, meets its annual targets and maximizes positive outcomes - Overseas
and leads technical trainings relevant to the project’s implementation - In
collaboration with the project’s M&E Director, monitors project
results and is responsible for ensuring that the project provides high
quality services, meets its annual targets and maximizes positive outcomes
- Ensure
visibility of project results, achievements and lessons learned through
presentations at conferences and workshops and/or publishing articles
through professional journals - Ensure
technical capacity of staff and provide technical assistance and
backstopping when required - Ensure
project activities are reasonable and in accordance with USAID rules and
regulations
The position
requires a competent and experienced person with the following attributes:
- A
Master’s Degree in public health, social sciences, international
development, or a related field - Seven
years of senior level management experience in the design, implementation,
and management of projects of similar size, complexity, and setting - Ten
years senior level experience in malaria programming - Knowledge
of USG Health initiatives and related reporting requirements and funding
parameters - A
working knowledge of PMI indicators and the Government of Tanzania’s
Malaria Medium-Term Strategic Plan - Experience
leading donor-funded projects in Tanzania or elsewhere in Africa - Demonstrated
experience in managing sub-grants including risk assessment and working
with host government entities as grantees - Excellent
record of accurate and on-time reporting to donor agencies - Exceptional
English written and oral communication skills’
