JOB CONTEXT:
Following consultation between Handicap International
(HI), the Uganda Mine Action Center (UMAC) and the United Nations Development
Program (UNDP) at the 9th Mine States Parties meeting in Geneva November 2008,
Handicap International conducted, in March 2009, a mine action assessment
mission in Western Uganda.

The assessment mission confirmed the presence of mine /
Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) and a significant socio-economic impact in
Western Uganda which was not being fully addressed. Handicap International has
started to assist the Ugandan authorities to prevent disability from
contamination of Explosive Remnants of War, protect most at risk groups until
clearance and return is possible, and contribute to victim assistance. The
project proposed by Handicap International has taken place through a
coordinated mine action approach in the affected district of Kasese. The
approach will include Mine / Explosive Remnants of War Risk Education and
Explosive Remnants of War Victim Assistance, in coordination with development
and capacity building.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
- You will be responsible to ensure implementation and
supervision of Mine Action project (Victim Assistance & Mine Risk
Education) in the intervention area. To address this objective you will have to
build a strong relationship with our main Ugandan strategic partners. - You are based in Kampala under the responsibilities of
the Head of mission, and will have to travel to different sites up to 30% of
your time. You ensure the management, the implementation, the supervision and
the follow up of the whole Mine Action project, in Uganda.
Your main responsibilities are to:
- Budget and manage the project
- Ensure the programs’ advancement supervision with
respect to technical and budgetary plans - Link with Log Manager, Admin Manager, Livelihood
Technical Advisor, VA Technical Advisor, and MRE Coordinator to define the intervention
strategy, check the advancement of Mine Action projects through regular field
visits, write narrative and budgetary project proposals - Coordinate the our Mine Action project in Uganda, with
other Mine Action players - Manage the Mine Action Ugandan Project staff members
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
As the successful candidate you will have:
- Higher education in economics, social sciences,
management - Relevant experience of implementing and developing
projects, - Experience of team management and project engineering –
related issues - Relevant professional experience in an NGO

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

Salary: 2100 to 2450 gross salary/month + 457 Euros net
expatriation allowance + 50% of the medical cover taken in charge by Handicap
International + repatriation insurance + indemnity for partner and children
