Greenpeace Canada is seeking an Actions & Training Coordinator to work
within campaign teams to ensure that actions and other forms of activities are
planned and executed successfully. The Actions and Training Coordinator is
responsible for implementing action planning strategies, preparing, planning
and coordinating actions, and assisting in the development of Greenpeace’s
capacity to be innovative, confrontational and inspirational while coordinating
the delivery of a national supporter (volunteer and activist) training program.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Planning, researching, developing, implementing and coordinating relevant
high profile actions (non-violent direct actions, direct communications, photo
opportunities and protests) according to Greenpeace standards. Ensure all
participants strictly adhere to health and safety procedures and agreements.
• Researching and investigating action plans for feasibility including legal
assessment via consultation and representation. Ensuring campaign staff develop
and implement action-led campaign strategies and select action tactics that
provide significant opportunities for engagement and mobilization by target
audiences.
• Ensuring that proper timing and steps are followed according to Greenpeace
Canada’s Actions Procedures including a comprehensive evaluation at the end of
every project/action.
• Ensuring accurate records and files are kept according to the different procedures
that are in place within Greenpeace Canada’s Actions Unit and Greenpeace
International. Preparing and monitoring project budgets when applicable and
follow established financial procedures.
• Coordinating the delivery of a national training program for Greenpeace
supporters (i.e. activists and volunteers). Working with colleagues in the
Actions & Offline Mobilization team and external contractors to ensure
quality delivery of the program. Developing and implementing training
assessment tools and managing training records.
• Participating as a trainer and help with the further development of
Greenpeace Canada’s activist training program (which includes NVDA, Climbing,
Boat driving, basic action-related techniques, research and scouting etc.)
• Providing support as well as technical and logistical advice for Greenpeace
campaign staff and other actions staff as required. Aiding in logistics for
actions, volunteers, campaign and staff training as required.
• Maintaining and developing excellent relations with all global actions staff
including Greenpeace International Marine and Action Divisions and other
Greenpeace Canada staff.
• Maintaining proper use and storage of all materials used for actions and
trainings. Reporting any issues related to action equipment upon completion of
an event, or upon noticing a problem to the Head of Actions and Offline
Mobilization.
• Ensuring proper flow of communication within the Actions and Offline
Mobilization unit.
• Leading cross-functional, national and global projects as needed as per
established GP project management processes. Acting as task managers within
project management framework. Overseeing approved project budgets.
• Participating as a member of the broader Actions and Offline Mobilization
team, supporting the overall goals and needs of the team as required, including
working outside of the area of expertise (e.g. mobilization or volunteer
projects).
• Performing other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills:
• Ability to work within a team setting while inspiring and providing ongoing
specialized skills training;
• Highly developed oral, written, and inter-personal communication skills, as
well as strong negotiation and listening abilities;
• High level of professionalism while representing an organization and maintaining
work relationships;
• Extremely fine-tuned organizational, logistics, administrative and time
management skills;
• Proven experience with equipment, techniques and safety considerations while
coordinating creative and strategic non-violent direct actions to create
change;
• Practical knowledge of the principles and theories of adult learning while
structuring and delivering and evaluating effective training programs and
curricula;
• Knowledge of Indigenous rights, the history of colonization in Canada and its
present day impacts as well as anti-oppression theories;
• A demonstrated commitment, knowledge and passion for environmental and social
justice issues and general knowledge of Greenpeace objectives, culture and
methods;
• Experience setting and adhering to priorities in a volatile and ever-changing
context;
• Proven commitment to knowledge sharing and innovation within a diverse
environment;
• Flexible, collaborative personality;
• Bilingualism in French and English is an asset;

You will work with colleagues in Canada and around the world. Extensive travel
may be necessary. Evening and weekend work will sometimes be required.

Candidates should understand and support Greenpeace campaign tactics, including
the use of peaceful civil disobedience. All candidates must be legally entitled
