The Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) seeks a highly motivated and experienced
professional to take on the role of its Chief

Operations Officer. As the
overall manager of the core teams of a fast growing global organization, this
position requires a highly motivated individual with a flexible mind, a passion
for co-creating sustainable solutions and the ability to work with complexity
and to clear goals and deadlines.

GEN is a 20 year old NGO whose mission is dedicated to sustainability on a
global scale, with a focus on the created human environment in all it’s
aspects: social, cultural/spiritual, ecologic, and economic.
“Ecovillage” is a global phenomena with thousands of network members
on six continents. Based at the world famous Findhorn Ecovillage Community https://www.findhorn.org/
will provide a very rich social experience. As a result of the Gulf Stream it’s
not unusual for the roses to be blooming in December.

Division/Department: GEN-International Staff
Reports to: GEN International Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

120 hours per month

Starting Date: October 15th, 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Implementation of vision, mission, strategic goals and code of conduct which
guide GEN, in close collaboration with the Board, AGM and CEO
• Collaborating with the CEO, Board and Financial Director in creating annual
budgets, approving expenditure, and monitoring and evaluating performance against
budget
• Developing and cascading the organization’s strategy/mission statement to
other GEN staff, and implementing appropriate rewards/recognition and coaching
practices to align staff with GEN goals
• Planning by prioritizing requirements of the network, the staff, projects,
and the organisation
• Ensuring that staff have the skills, expectations and motivation to fulfill
organizational requirements
• Establishing monitoring and evaluation practices
• Coordinating the Steering Group (Managers of 6 working groups, Finance
Director, Exec Sec and 2 Board Members)
• Recruit and induct GEN-staff
• Help to manage the Findhorn office, including supporting as needed interns
and volunteers at the office with task allocation and workload management

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
• At least 5 years’ proven track record of excellence in project and people
management, or comparable work experience

Core competencies:
• Understanding of and agreement to the vision and core values of GEN
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, including ability
to effectively communicate with internal staff and external partners, funders,
supporters e.g. Friends of GEN, governments and agencies. Further language
competence is a highly appreciated bonus.
• Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
and communication tools like Google drive, Webex, etc.)
• Ability to forge and maintain excellent working relationship with CEO
• Ability to work in an environment of emergence and complexity
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a
positive and inclusive attitude
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance

Salary: £2,000 per month, £24,000 per year
