seeks a team leader for the anticipated five-year DFID-funded East and Southern
Africa Staple Food Markets Programme. The programme aims to improve the
functioning of national and regional staple food market systems and increase
regional trade in staple foods. It will ultimately benefit more than 375,000
male and
female farmers, primarily poor farmers in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania,
Rwanda, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, and Malawi. The programme is
expected to start in February 2013 and the team leader will be based in Dar es
Salaam, Tanzania. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making
a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide
overall program leadership, management, and technical direction - Supervise
technical and administrative staff - Serve
as the primary liaison with DFID, host-government partners, the private
sector, civil society, and other stakeholders
- Advanced
degree in business, agriculture, international development, or a related
field required - Minimum
five years of experience managing international development projects or
subcomponents required - Experience
implementing or designing programs using Making Markets Work for the Poor
(M4P) methodology highly preferred - Familiarity
with Challenge or Development Funds in a development context preferred - Demonstrated
experience in agriculture and staple foods (e.g., agricultural inputs,
finance, supply chain strengthening, transportation, business development
services, storage/warehousing, processing, and/or whole sale trade) - Experience
managing DFID contracts or components highly preferred - Ability
to engage with central government and policymakers on pressing issues - Experience
in managing donor relations - Experience
in Africa required; experience and knowledge in East and Southern Africa
highly preferred - Demonstrated
leadership, versatility, and integrity - English
fluency required
