Role
overview: VSO is partnering with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) on an
exciting 5 year project designated as the “Southern Highlands and
Ruaha-Katavi Protection Project”. The objectives of this project are to
reverse degradation of biodiversity and unsustainable land and water use
practices, to conserve wildlife and their habitats, to improve local
livelihoods and to promote sustainable natural resource based economic growth
in the Greater Ruaha and Southern Highlands Landscape.
The
Business Development Coordinator (BDC) will lead the process of identifying
Natural Resource Management (NRM)-based business opportunities across the
landscape in collaboration with various local partners including Wildlife
Management Areas (WMAs) and forest-dependent communities-a key step in securing
livelihood benefits. He/she will guide the elaboration of business plans for
WMAs and assist Authorised Associations in identifying opportunities and
engaging effectively with possible private investors. The Business Development
Coordinator will be responsible for guiding capacity development for key
community groups and individuals, while also coordinating the input of external
experts from successful Community Based Natural Resource Management programs as
well as business development experts. In the Southern Highlands, the BDC will
provide support to honey and tourism marketing.
Skills,
qualifications and experience required MSc. in business development related
disciplines;
At
least 5 years working at field level in of community-based business development
with experience working with recognized community/ development partners;
Experience
from business development in the private sector would also be a distinct
advantage- above all we need to identify solutions at local level with
marketing potential;
Working
familiarity with the CBNRM concept and its application;
Additional
travel around the country may be required.
