International Youth Internships: NOW RECR
Since 2002, the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC)
has offered 65 internships in 16 countries through the International
Youth Internships Program (DFATD). These internships provide youth
(age 19-30) with international development experience, skills, and
knowledge to help better prepare them for future employment, while
advancing Canadian development objectives.
ACIC works with its Canadian member organizations and their
international partners to offer interns valuable experience both
overseas as well as in Canada. Interns will work in the areas of
securing the future of children and youth, stimulating sustainable
economic growth, and increasing food security. Through this
experience, interns develop skills and experience that will assist
them in securing employment as well as enabling them to make
connections and develop relationships with many Canadian development
practitioners.
Internships are eight months in duration, with six months spent in
host partner organization countries: Bhutan, Bolivia, Ghana, Gambia,
Haiti, Jamaica, Kenya, South Africa and Uganda. Interns also work in
Canada for up to two months with an ACIC member organization both
prior to their departure overseas and upon their return.
A modest living allowance is provided, as well as funding to assist
with a variety of costs related to the internship, including: travel
to overseas posting, medical insurance, visas, training and job search
support. Interns cover the cost of travel to and from the location in
Atlantic Canada at the beginning and end of their contract.
