best management practices, and liaising with the Park Board for ecological

The
Conservation Projects Manager is responsible for identifying, planning and
developing conservation programs based on ecological needs for Stanley Park.
S/he is responsible for:
Conservation Projects Manager is responsible for identifying, planning and
developing conservation programs based on ecological needs for Stanley Park.
S/he is responsible for:
- setting
objectives and timelines and accomplishing delivery of grant &
contract deliverables that reflect the organization’s mission as well as
public image; - collaborating
with a diversity of program partners and stakeholders including but not
limited to Vancouver Park Board and academic institutions; - setting
and tracking work plans, budgets, and data; - evaluating
the effectiveness of programs and projects - hiring,
training, and managing several field technician staff plus numerous
volunteers; - providing
technical direction on diverse data collection and monitoring of field
programs; - undertaking
wildlife inventories based on RISC standards; maintaining appropriate
permits; staying current on wildlife laws and Best Management Practices; - delivering
media interviews and public speaking at various forums; - contributing
to grant applications; writing grant reports.
Required
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Minimum
B.Sc. degree in ecology, conservation or resource management or Diploma of
Technology and 2 years effective technical experience in conservation
resource management; - Minimum
of 2 years of experience in stewardship/conservation project management; - Demonstrated
success with effectively managing employees and engaging volunteers - Strong
understanding of BC ecology and wildlife; knowledge of conservation issues
in local region; - Demonstrated
experience in successfully planning and implementing community based
habitat conservation action through multi-disciplinary teams and diverse
community partners - Excellent
ecological data collection and analysis skills, citizen science, and
competence in collaborating with stakeholders; prioritizing restoration
and enhancement - Self-directed,
self-motivated, organized and flexible; politically diplomatic and a team
player - Excellent
oral communication and presentation skills; clear and accurate writing
skills - Excellent
interpersonal and leadership skills with a collaborative work style; - Effective
management of overlapping priorities and deadlines; creativity in solving
problems; - Proven
ability to create and effectively manage project and program budgets; - Success
in hiring, coaching, supervising, evaluating staff; - Passion
for nature and belief in the SPES mission and goals; - Experience
working with diverse groups including First Nations, planners,
environmental organizations, government agencies, academic institutions,
and others an asset - Commitment
to frequently work outdoors in any weather conditions with a flexible
schedule that may occasionally include evenings and weekends. - Working
knowledge of GIS methodologies an asset as well as experience with RISC
standard survey techniques and environmental law/regulations (eg.Species
at Risk Act) - Proficiency
in MS Suite including Excel, Access database system - Experience
with Lightroom, InDesign, Photoshop, (etc) an asset - Standard
first aid including CPR C (can be provided) - Class
5 BC Drivers License - Criminal
Records check including vulnerable sector search
Hours: Fulltime, Regular
