programme to support the Burun

di refugees in Mahama Refugee Camp.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The primary function of the SGBV
Officer will support the implementation of the SGBV prevention and response in
Mahama 2 camp and will closely work with Child Protection Advisor/ Manager to
ensure integration of protection principles and SGBV risk mitigation into
on-going humanitarian operations serving Burundian Refugees and to develop
appropriate, focused SGBV prevention and response activities.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
  • Work
    with Save the child protection, community service, health and education
    team and analyze needs and to explore areas of potential engagement.
  • Support
    the design, implementation and analysis of GBV assessments.
  • Coordinate
    with local and international organizations, UN agencies and other
    stakeholders to ensure holistic support for survivors, including
    development of GBV SOPs and referral pathways.
  • Work
    with protection teams to design appropriate GBV prevention and response
    messages
  • Provide
    regular input to the proposals and program reports
  • Explore
    and encourage integration of GBV concerns and activities into existing
    programme including reproductive and primary health, mental health and
    psychosocial, and youth programming.
  • Assist
    Protection Advisor to develop and deliver technical trainings for field
    staff, volunteers and partner organizations and broader protection
    prevention and response best practices.
  • Assist
    and lead, where appropriate, trainings for protection actors; community;
    youth etc on GBV prevention and response including a strong focus on the
    rights of refugees and GBV survivors.
  • Participate
    in relevant camp based SGBV, protection and coordination meetings.
  • Build
    networks within the camp community: Coordinate with community leaders and
    women’s associations, community based child protection mechanism to
    strengthen support and information networks.
  • Compile
    regular program reports, on time and with accurate data.
  • Assist
    in the monitoring and evaluation of the project through the project cycle
  • Assist
    in the implementation of outreach activities and campaigns

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
  • Bachelor’s
    Degree or extensive experience in social work; health care; community
    development
  • Significant
    experience in working with young adults and women
  • A
    throughout understanding of the drivers of Gender-based violence in Rwanda
    specially among the refugee communities, as well as of good practices in
    GBV prevention programmes in the region
  • Understanding
    of the key elements of Gender Equality and Human Rights (particularly
    relating to women and girls)
  • Ability
    to manage a large and varied workload, work under pressure and meet
    deadlines
  • Leadership
    and Supervision
  • Manage
    the output by planning, monitoring and evaluating output activities in
    accordance with the project agreement
  • Lead
    progress reviews, the establishment of work plans, the set-up of
    performance targets and identifies challenges to achieve the output
    objectives
    • Strong
      commitment to gender equality and equity
    • Strong
      understanding of the situation of children in the community and
      demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of children in the
      community.
    • Good
      spoken and written English and Kanyarwanda
    • Good
      computer skills (MS Office, including Outlook for email).

      to travel independently, including to rural communities and work long
      hours.

      to  and  understanding  of  Save  the

      rights-based approaches
