Sample Size and Sampling Technique

A sample
size of one hundred and eighty (180) was used for this study. The sampling was
carried out using the stratified and simple random sampling techniques. The
community was stratified into six (6) strata which represent the number of
quarters in Okpokunou. Thirty persons (30) persons were randomly selected from each
quarter (stratum). From each of the stratum, the simple random sampling
technique was adopted by using the ballot without replacement method to select
the respondents for the study.

The
researcher carefully designed pieces of papers marked “Yes” (accepted) and “No”
(not accepted) which were wrapped and shuffled after which the people were
asked to pick one each; anyone who picks a piece of paper containing “Yes” was
selected as one of the respondents while all those who pick pieces of paper
containing “No” were not accepted as respondents. This procedure was repeated
until the desired sample size was obtained.
