description
Gashora Girls
Academy of Science and Technology, Rwanda’s premier secondary boarding school
for girls, is seeking an experienced English teacher to be the head of our department.
GGAST is the most socio-economically diverse school perhaps in all of East
Africa, and we have successfully blended the best of Western and African
educational philosophies and approaches. Five years ago Rwanda switched from
being a Francophone to an Anglophone country, so a number of our girls arrive
with limited English fluency. Our fundamental goal is to support our girls to
“achieve their highest potential” including tertiary study both in
Rwanda, the West and around the world. In our first graduating class of 85, 27
of those girls are studying in the USA or Canada with $5.5 million in
scholarships.
The successful
candiate for this position will teach a full load of classes while working with
other teachers to flesh out an appropriate scope and sequence for the
development of English fluency. A major focus is specific training for success
on the TOEFL and SAT (or ACT) exams.
A single room in a
6-person staff house on campus is provided along with food while school is in
session.
