Overall
responsibilities :
·        
The Research Project Coordinator is responsible for
overseeing the day-to-day conduct of the Rwanda Breast Health Initiative, a
collaborative research project being led by the Rwandan Ministry of Health
and Partners in Health.
·        
The research project will be conducted at Butaro Hospital
and Rwinwkavu Hospital.
·        
Its overarching goal is to promote understanding of breast
cancer in Rwanda and inform efforts to promote early detection, diagnosis and
management of breast cancer.
·        
Specifically, the study will build a dual-hospital-based
breast cancer registry, describe breast cancer and benign breast disease
cases at the two hospitals, and investigate barriers to care.
·        
The Research Project Coordinator will enroll patients with
breast cancer and benign breast disease in the study and administer patient
questionnaires at Butaro Hospital.
·        
(S)he will extract information from the medical records
and will enter questionnaire and medical record information in an Access
database.
·        
(S)he will serve as an initial point person for patient
and provider questions and concerns.
·        
(S)he will be in close contact with the Principal
Investigators and will compile monthly reports on study progress.
·        
(S)he will work with the PIs to compile required study
documentation for national committees and IRBs.
·        
(S) he will interact with patients frequently and may also
conduct brief breast awareness education sessions with selected patients.
·        
This position will provide an excellent opportunity to
develop research and management skills, as well as exposure to key women’s
health and oncology issues.
Tasks :

Oversee implementation of study protocol and instrument ;

Determine study eligibility, obtain informed consent, and administer
questionnaires at Butaro Hospital and occasionally at Rwinkwavu
Hospital ;

Extraction and entry of medical record data at both hospitals every three
months ;

Questionnaire data entry ;

Work closely with the Principal Investigators to ensure smooth conduct of the
study ;

Maintain very regular communication over email and in person with the
Principal Investigators ; report any problems including confidentiality
concerns immediately

Travel regularly from Butaro Hospital to Rwinkwavu Hospital to oversee study
conduct at Rwinkwavu and support the study team there ;

Serve as one contact person for patients and providers with questions about
the study ;

Assist with development and submission of ongoing ethical review materials
and study reports ;

Potentially play a key role in other breast cancer and cancer research
projects in the future.
Education
and skills required :

University degree (A0), in Nursing, Social work or Public health ;

At least 2 years experience with medical or public health research and
familiarity with principles of ethical conduct of research ;

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to
interact with rural women and put them at ease, and communicate effectively
with members of the clinical and study teams ;

Flexibility, independence, creativity, demonstrated leadership and
organizational skills ;

Excellent attention to detail ;

Ability to learn basic information and terminology regarding medical oncology
and breast cancer care in a short amount of time ;

Fluency in English, familiarity with medical English ; fluency in
Kinyarwanda

Strong computing skills, including familiarity with Excel and ability to
learn Access
