Position: Summer Student: Logistics and Equipment Assistant

Position Overview:

Not Far From The Tree, a project of Tides Canada Initiatives Society,
puts Toronto’s abundance of local fruit to good use by picking and
sharing the bounty. We engage

and mobilize Torontonians to steward the
food-producing trees in our urban forest. Our innovative and
award-winning programs promote urban ecology, activate local food and
build social cohesion.

Working closely with the Picking Coordinator, the Logistics and
Equipment Assistant will provide logistical support to our fruit
picking program and events, ensure equipment needs are met and support
Not Far From The Tree’s volunteer team.

Applications Due: Friday, May 30th

Anticipated Start Date: Mid-June

Location: Toronto, ON (office located at Richmond Street and Spadina Avenue)

Key Responsibilities:
• Work closely with the Picking Coordinator to maximize the amount of
fruit picked
• Lead teams of volunteers on fruit picks and transport fruit and
equipment to food banks and community kitchens
• Assist with maintenance, distribution and procurement of equipment
• Some database and email account management
• Support staff in the preparation and running of special events

Requirements:

This position is made possible with support from Canada Summer Jobs
and only applicants who meet all of the following criteria will be
considered:
• Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
• Was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year
• Intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic
year
• Is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP, vocational or
technical program
• Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee
protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee
Protection Act
• Legally entitled to work according to the provincial legislation and
regulations

Qualifications:
• Comfortable riding bicycles and pulling a load and able to lift 30
pounds or more
• Enjoy working outdoors
• Able to work independently and to problem solve
• Interest in environmental sustainability, food security and/or
community building
• Experience working with volunteers or in customer service an asset
• Computer skills an asset

Compensation: $11/hour for 30 hours/week
