Unique opportunity to live and work in community.
My name is Mike and I operate an small scale organic farm here in
beautiful Victoria BC. I grow an one acre mix
ed vegetable and fruit
farm. My business is called New Mountain Farm and I farm at a
community farm called haliburton community farm. Together we are a
collective of 8 businesses working together. Haliburton has a focus on
education, environmental stewardship, and supporting new farmers. I am
looking for a summer apprentice to start work with me ASAP (open May
1) till the end of August to help out with all aspects of the farm
operations. I ask for 20 hours per week, broken up how you wish.
I can offer you a free room and food staples where I live in the
intentional community house of 14 individuals who make up the the
Point St house. We are a group of farmers, gardners, teachers, bike
repairists, students, herbalist, massage healers, etc. You would be
welcomed in as a full roommate with all the perks and
responsibilities. Enjoy community dinners every night, music nights,
weekly house meetings, and general good times.
The person I am looking for must have a strong desire to farm.
Experience is worth nothing and passion everything. Must be an
excellent communicator (ie skills in nonviolent communication, etc).
Aware of ones own feelings. Not afraid to express those feelings. That
is about it.
Normally I would ask people to come to the farm for a day and then
come over for dinner to meet everyone, but if you are interested but
not in the local area please reply with your “letter of intent”.
