About Nature Kids
Nature Kids is an extra-curricular program that aims to teach children (ages
4-11) and their families about nature. We provide educational materials and
organize field experiences that promote being outdoors, observing nature,
scientific investigation, environmental stewardship, and healthy living. As a
program of Nature Alberta, we are deeply committed to inspiring new generations
of naturalists to become a strong voice for conservation of Alberta’s natural
environment.
Position Description
As a Nature Kids Program Assistant, your job will be to encourage environmental
stewardship by facilitating the expansion of program aims across the province.
With organizational support, Program Assistants will participate in: collecting
and creating content for outreach material and Nature Kids publications;
promoting Nature Alberta and its initiatives during community and industry
events; accessing and sharing community resources; and increasing member
recruitment. Major responsibilities of this position are to personally connect
with groups and individuals throughout the province in order to promote and
expand the reach of Nature Kids in Alberta. Applicants must have excellent
inter-personal and written communication skills in addition to an aptitude for
giving public presentations.
Qualifications:
• Strong written and oral communication skills (this is a position for someone
who is personable and very comfortable networking and giving public
presentations)
• Ability to work well independently
• Flexibility around working some evenings and weekends
• Volunteer management experience
• Access to a reliable vehicle with a valid Class 5 License
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• A passion for environmental conservation and promoting the appreciation of
Alberta’s native species and natural areas
• Completion of a minimum of two years at a post-secondary institution and
currently enrolled in an environmental, science, recreation or education degree
program
• Experience in the development or implementation of youth education or
recreation programs is preferred
