Country Director – Liberia
As the Country Director you will be responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction and operational management of the country programme in line with Merlin’s vision and objectives. You will also assume responsibility for the smooth running, consolidation and development of Merlin programs through analysis of the humanitarian and development context, needs assessments and appropriate responses. The post also includes responsibility at country level for identifying and securing donor funding and an expectation to increase Merlin’s profile through representation to external actors and advocacy on behalf of vulnerable populations.
We are looking for someone with substantial experience in a senior management position in an international role in challenging country contexts. You should also have practical experience in representing your organisation at all levels, strategic planning and implementation, security management, budgetary oversight and the ability to ensure that Merlin’s policies and procedures in HR, logistics and administration are adhered to.
You must be able to demonstrate what you’ve learned about good practice in delivering programme leadership and management in challenging country contexts. You will be familiar with working in rural and/or insecure settings, and will have had worked in different countries. Most importantly, you will be able to work independently and as a collaborative team member in complex and often difficult operating environments.
You must have a flexible attitude and able to adapt to changing circumstances as well as the ability to prioritize a high workload. Fluency in written and verbal English is essential.
