Specific accountabilities:
• Be the subject matter expert for properties, regional offices and
corporate departments with respect to energy and resource related
matters, including procurement, incentive programs, energy projects,
budgets and accruals, as well as energy and resource management.
Collect and manage metrics and other information necessary to track
and manage resource consumption (energy and other resources) required
to plan for, report on and assist properties and corporate departments
in meeting the objectives of Ivanhoe Cambridge regarding sustainable
building operations;
• Research, development and implementation of targeted operational
programs related to energy and sustainability within the properties;
• Provide support to the properties in their efforts to become more
sustainable.
Energy Related responsibilities:
• Manage collection of information relating to assembly of energy
rates for annual budget guidelines for property budgets;
• Manage the review of utility’s portion of the property operating
budget accrual preparation for September and December year-ends;
• Coordinate tendering of energy purchases in deregulated markets,
including identification of supplier, preparation of tender documents,
analysis of submissions and make purchase recommendations to senior
management;
• Provide support to the Asset Management team during approval process
for energy procured by third party property managers on behalf of
Ivanhoe Cambridge at non-managed properties as requested;
• Maintain ongoing records of spot and future prices for energy in
order to identify and seize opportunities to procure energy at best
available pricing;
• Track consumption, energy costs, transmission and distribution cost
in order to support budget process and also to measure and compare
budget to actual energy consumption;
• Manage relationship with energy related service companies retained
to identify cost savings initiatives;
• Oversee the review of consolidated energy invoices for payment in a
timely fashion;
• Provide utility contract information requested by the Investments
team to support the disposition of existing properties as requested;
• Provide support to the Investments team during the acquisition of
new properties as required;
• Oversee participation in energy rebate and incentive programs.
Sustainability Related responsibilities:
• In conjunction with the Manager Operational Sustainability and Waste
Management manage the process to calculate the company’s carbon foot
print for all properties and offices based on industry standards such
as ISO14064-1/ WRI GHG Protocol;
• Identify and propose improvements to management information systems
to simplify the process of gathering metrics necessary to efficiently
report on sustainability objectives;
• Provide data related to energy and water use to be used in CSR and
sustainability reporting;
• Provide data to major sustainability studies i.e. GRESB or the
Carbon Disclosure Project;
• Be familiar with industry best practices in terms of sustainable
building operations trends and issues in order to recommend
improvements to the properties;
• Provide support to properties in the coordination and implementation
of energy related activities by developing tools to improve
performance and efficiency;
• Support the development of new sustainability procedures and
programs, and encourage properties to align with and support these
programs Coordinate company wide energy and water efficiency
initiatives;
• Manage the collation of data on sustainability programs/projects and
cost/benefit analysis working closely with staff at properties to
better understand and optimize sustainability project impacts;
• Evaluate, enhance and develop improved systems to track and maintain
utility data including normalizing the data, and flexibility to create
informative reports that support sustainability programming;
• Manage tracking systems based on recognized standards to support the
process of setting benchmarks and targets for Ivanhoe Cambridge.
Collaborate with property managers and business units to develop
reduction targets.
Key requirements
• University degree from a recognized post secondary institution in
engineering, environmental science or related field;
• Leed AP certification would be an asset;
• 3-5 years in an energy management or sustainability position;
• Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
• Ability to make decision and support company guidelines
authoritatively and quickly;
• High degree of problem solving skills;
• Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders;
• Excellent computer skills in Microsoft office applications;
• Working knowledge of sustainability standards such as GRI, ISO 14064
or WRI GHG Protocol would be an asset.
• Bilingual French and English would be an asset
