Responsibilities

  • Performs the function of higher level
    supervisor of the Travel and Shipping Unit.
  • Monitors and directs the area of travel,
    shipping and visa activities from the establishment of travel entitlements
    and travel arrangements for UN officials.
  • Identifies and evaluates new developments with
    airline regulations for appropriate applications to UN Requirements.
  • Decides on priorities and procedures to
    maximize utilization of existing resources while maintaining and improving
    the quality of service being rendered.
  • Represents the unit in all official meetings
    of travel related issues.
  • Approves correspondence between ICTR and the
    Ministry of Foreign Affairs in respect of visas, residence permits, PRO6s,
    vehicle registration and other related matters.
  • Reviews information regarding the use of a
    local shipping company related to shipments of personal effects and
    household goods
  • Sources the most cost-effective and reliable
    shipping company to handle shipping matters
  • Advises staff members on the guidelines/processing
    of insurance claims for lost or damaged goods.
  • Performs all administrative activities for the
    unit.
  • Assists in the preparation of budget estimates
  • Coordinates and liaises with ICTY travel Unit.

Education
High school
diploma or equivalent.
Work
Experience
A minimum of
Seven (7) years of experience in travel administration, including travel rate
construction, routing, and travel reimbursement, or related area. Knowledge of
UN Travel and Shipping regulations and rules is required.
Languages
English and French
are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post
advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of
another official United Nations language or Kiswahili is an advantage.

Evaluation of
qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed
by competency-based interview
Special
Notice
The
appointment is limited to the ICTR. Appointment of the successful candidate on
this position will be limited to the initial funding of the post. Extension of
the appointment is subject to the extension of the mandate and/or the
availability of funds. As the international tribunals are not integrated in the
Secretariat, UN Staff Members serve on assignment or secondment from their parent
department/office if selected. Appointments of staff members in the United
Nations are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General. Staff Members
are expected to move periodically to new functions in accordance with
established rules and procedures, and may in this context be reassigned by the
Secretary-General throughout the Organization based on the changing needs and
mandates.
