About Growing Chefs!
“Growing Chefs! Chefs for Children’s Urban Agriculture” gets kids excited about good, healthy food. In our Classroom Gardening Program, chef volunteers are paired with elementary school classrooms (grades 1-3) to give students hands-on experience growing and cooking their own food.
Volunteer Internship
Growing Chefs! is looking for a motivated and creative individual to join our team as our Fall Intern. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide-range of activities, ranging from event coordination, public relations support, community outreach, social media, and administrative duties. This position is a three-month part-time unpaid volunteer position, with possibility of extension. Position is based in Vancouver. Must be able to work remotely and in office. Commitment is approx. 10hrs per week—may occasionally include evenings and weekends.
This unpaid internship will provide you with a range of hands-on experience from event planning, event coordination, marketing, public relations, office administration, and fundraising. It will offer the successful candidate an inside view of the workings of a non-profit environment, and provide valuable training and job skills applicable to both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.
Responsibilities:
• Assist with event coordination and administration of our fall fundraising activities, including the From Farms to Forks Growing Chefs! gala
• Work with Public Relations representative to complete media follow-up calls and media pitches
• Provide administrative support for marketing and promotion of Growing Chefs! campaigns and events
• Assist with Growing Chefs! donor stewardship and recognition
• Attend community outreach events and host Growing Chefs! outreach tables and festival booths
• Generate content and update social media sites, online postings, blog, and website
• Assist in the development and implementation of social media campaigns to increase online presence
• Help with the writing and proofreading of printed promotional materials
• Performs other duties as required
• Assist with administrative duties as needed
Qualifications
• Experience with event coordination and planning
• Experience with media relations and public relations
• An understanding of online and offline marketing and promotions
• Strong writing, proofreading, and communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Technology savvy and fluent with social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, WordPress
• Highly organized, ability to work to strict deadlines
• Proficiency in Microsoft word, Excel, Google Documents, MailChimp
• An understanding of data management and constituent relationship management
• Basic knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop is an asset
• Basic knowledge of Drupal is an asset
