Greenpeace
Canada is seeking a proven leader as Head of Communications and Digital
Mobilization with specialized expertise in the development of a communications
program integrating storytelling, audience analysis, strategic framing, media
relations, digital mobilization, and data-driven decision-making across all
media and channels.
This
highly collaborative and innovative position works closely with the Deputy
Program Director, the Head of Actions and Offline Mobilization, and other
colleagues within the GPC Program Management Team to ensure maximum integration
of all aspects of the communications and digital mobilization program.
MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Planning,
    implementing and evaluating the national communications and digital
    mobilization program.
  2. Coordinating
    the development of strategies, objectives, milestones and program
    activities covering all aspects of communications and digital
    mobilization.
  3. Providing
    vision and leadership for a dynamic program within GPC that is continuing
    to change and develop.
  4. Recruiting,
    managing, motivating, and facilitating the work of the team members as
    well as develop objectives and work-plans for staff in the unit.
  5. Overseeing
    communications on all GPC channels including the website and social media
    to ensure quality and consistency of all GPC communications products
    including press releases, press statements, reports, photo, video, audio,
    supporter communications, and digital content.
  6. Implementing
    efficient and effective approvals process for communications products
    while ensuring strong communications principles are incorporated into
    project planning across the organization.
  7. Ensuring
    rigorous risk assessment as relates to communications and public relations
    for GPC.
  8. Developing
    effective evaluation and reporting mechanisms for all aspects of
    communications and digital mobilization, including the development and
    reporting of key performance indicators.
  9. Ensuring
    delivery of fundraising goals included as part of the digital mobilization
    program.
  10. Supporting
    the implementation of the project model, including participating in the
    set-up and oversight of project teams and providing ongoing support to
    project leaders and other project team members.
  11. Representing
    GPC in dealings with other national and regional offices (NROs) and
    Greenpeace International. Building and maintaining relationships with
    other NGOs, grassroots groups, and individuals as related to the
    communications and digital mobilization program.
  12. Holding
    overall responsibility for budget allocation within the communications and
    digital mobilization team and ensure that all expenditures are kept within
    the agreed budget.
Required
skills and experience:
  • proven
    experience leading, directing, managing and motivating a diverse team of
    staff within the areas of communication and digital mobilization;
  • previous
    experience in a position which required highly tuned analytical and
    judgment skills;
  • experience
    developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating strategies that advance
    organizational goals;
  • superior
    organizational, administrative and time management skills;
  • previous
    experience leading communication work including campaign and crisis
    communications;
  • proven
    ability to work well in a highly charged, multitasking atmosphere;
  • experience
    leading the development and implementation of digital mobilization
    strategies and programs;
  • experience
    preparing, monitoring and controlling budget expenditures;
  • significant
    interpersonal and networking skills both verbally and written;
  • knowledge
    of digital mobilization trends and tools;
  • a
    demonstrated commitment to environmental and social justice issues including
    activism;
  • bilingualism
    (English/French) or the ability to communicate well in both languages will
    be considered a strong asset;
  • knowledge
    and understanding of Greenpeace’s overall goals;
  • excellent
    oral and written communication skills including public speaking and
    presentation skills, as well as strong active listening skills;
You
will work with colleagues in Canada and around the world and you must be able
to travel, inlcuding internationally. The ability to work weekends and evenings
is sometimes required.
