Join the Green Party of BC’s campaign to elect Green MLAs and help build our membership, identify supportive voters, increasing donations, and support our candidates and other Greens throughout the province! As the Volunteer Coordinator you’ll be part of a passionate team determined to strength true democracy in BC. The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for the management of all of the Green Party of BC’s volunteer organization needs, including:
• Collaborating with our coordinating team to identify, develop and advertise volunteer positions
• Designing and implementing volunteer screening and training processes
• Supervising, supporting, and providing recognition to all volunteers
• Assisting with fund development and the organizing of special events
• Promoting the Green Party of BC, our Party leader, and Party candidates in local communities
• Public advocacy of volunteerism
This position will be for 30 hours per week.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Coordinate all aspects of the Party’s volunteer program, ensuring that it meets the requirements of all stakeholders
• Coordinate all stages in the volunteer cycle (recruitment, screening, team building, training, recognition, evaluation, and ongoing support and supervision)
• Build and nurture relationships with staff and volunteers at the downtown Victoria office and with virtual volunteers based throughout the province
• Foster an environment that encourages open communication
• Act as a liaison between the Green Party of BC and its volunteers
• Promote awareness of volunteer opportunities within the Green Party of BC, events and messaging with the local and virtual Green community
• Support related office administration tasks and oversee the volunteer program budget, in consultation with the Executive Director
• Active support for other projects and responsibilities as they arise
Qualifications:
• A volunteer management certificate or related post-secondary education, or knowledge of volunteer management/engagement best practices acquired through past experience working with a grassroots political or environmental organization
• Knowledge and understanding of neighbourhood based community development an asset
• Strong organization and time management skills, especially around planning and prioritization, and ability to meet ongoing service delivery demands on an on-site and virtual basis
• Strong interpersonal, collaborative and motivational skills, with a demonstrated ability to establish effective team and person-to-person working relationships
• Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with diverse groups of volunteers, with staff, and with community representatives
• Ability to critical examine issues, to identify opportunities for service integration, to anticipate problems before they occur, and to maintain a solution-focused orientation, and to remain flexible
Proficient in MS Office applications, especially Word and Excel
• An active Green supporter
• A Criminal Reference Check will be required of successful candidates for this position
Special Requirements:
Candidates should be eligible for the Victoria-based Work Source wage subsidy program however it may be possible to negotiate other arrangements on an individual and negotiated basis. In either case, please contact us for further information!
