Global Health Corps (GHC) is a leadership
development organization focused on building the next generation of diverse,
disruptive global health leaders. Founded in 2009, we competitively recruit
talented professionals (ages 21-30) from a range of sectors and backgrounds and
place them in h
igh-impact roles within partner organizations — including
Clinton Health Access Initiative, Partners in Health, Planned Parenthood
Global, and Government Ministries in Zambia, Rwanda, and Uganda — working on
the front lines of health equity in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the US, and Zambia.
GHC is seeking
fellows from a wide range of backgrounds, geographies, and expertise. Through a
one-year paid fellowship program, fellows provide the expertise and leadership
potential needed to fill capacity gaps in global health.
About
Placement Organization
Partners In Health
(PIH), headquartered in Boston, MA, is an internationally recognized non-profit
organization whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in
health care. Through its service delivery, training, advocacy and research, PIH
works globally to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in
need and to serve as an antidote to despair. PIH operates sites for clinical
care, research and training in 10 countries (Haiti, Peru, Russia, Boston,
Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, Kazakhstan, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic) and
has a growing network of affiliated organizations and initiatives in several
other countries, including Nepal, Burundi, Mali, Liberia, Guatemala, and Togo.
In 2005, Partners In
Health was invited by the Rwanda Government to start working in Rwanda, and a
sister organization locally known as “Inshuti Mu Buzima” (IMB) was initiated.
Today PIH/IMB accompanies the Ministry of Health (MOH) in three rural districts
(Kayonza, Kirehe and Burera) with a total catchment area of 900,000 people, to
deliver high quality health care at three district hospitals, 40 health
centers, and at the community level through roughly 2,700 community health
workers.
Position
Overview
The Supply Chain and
Procurement Officer will be based in Kigali and will work closely with IMB
programs to support planning and implementation for sourcing and ordering
operations. The Officer will manage the full life cycle of this work, ensuring
all IMB programs have high quality services and compliant products through
data-driven decision making. The Officer will be responsible for meeting
current expectations as well as laying strong plans for future needs.
Responsibilities
- Identify
program needs vs. consumptions, and forecast a plan for future deliveries
for pharmaceuticals and allied consumables - Work
with the existing supply chain to stabilize the clinical supply chain
cycle with one goal: preventing the medical procurements (pharmaceutical
and equipment) shortages and delays at 0% tolerance level - Observe
supply chain records and propose improvements regarding both tools and
internal processes - Work
with the existing team to improve efficiency on old and pending operations
related to IMB assets and stock counts operations
Required
Skills and Experience
- Education
and/or experience in end-to-end supply chain management procurement, or
logistics - Ability
to explore supply chain record with an eye toward continuous improvement - Strong
communications skills (in English and/or French) and ability to
professionally communicate in a multicultural environment - Proficiency
in Microsoft Office suites, including Excel, and PowerPoint - Strong
time management skills and high level of integrity
Preferred
Skills and Experience
- Specific
experience in humanitarian supply chain management and/or clinical
procurement/ logistics - Ability
to develop supply chain tools as per the line manager recommendations and
narrative reports where and when necessary - Ability
to implement new strategies - Strong
skills in managing people of varying cultural backgrounds and education
levels - Professional
and results-focused - Financial
acumen; analytical and risks assessment skills - Strong
IT skills, including experience with software development
Fellowship
Logistics
During the
fellowship year, all fellows are provided with:
- A
living stipend of $650/month - Housing
and utilities - Health
insurance - A
professional development grant of $600 - An
award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year - Travel
costs covered to and from placement site, training and retreats
*Note: The living
stipend and the completion award may be paid out in USD or local currency, as
determined by the placement organization.
Living and
Working in Rwanda:
Fellows are provided with housing and utilities during the fellowship year.
Housing arrangements vary based on the placement organization and location
within the country. Supply Chain and Procurement Officers placed at PIH will be
provided with shared housing near the PIH office in Kigali, an urban center and
capital of Rwanda.
