POSITION SUMMARY:
The First Nations Fisheries Council is seeking an energetic and adaptable
personality who is motivated and self-directing to jo
in our Water for Fish
team. Reporting to the Water Project Manager, you will work to implement
specific activities part of the Water for Fish Initiative. This is a terrific
opportunity to start your career in field you are passionate about, with the
possibility of an employment extension at the conclusion of the internship
period subject to funding. Specific work assignments will be aligned with the
skills and experience of the successful candidate. Examples of some activities
under the Water for Fish Initiative are:
• Event planning for First Nations engagement, including webinars and
workshops.
• Conduct outreach to increase awareness of the FNFC and the Water for Fish
Initiative.
• Develop information and content for Water for Fish outreach (e.g. social
media, blogs, newsletters).
• Maintain databases for contacts, as well as literature.
• Conduct primary and secondary research.

Fisheries Action Plan, BC First Nations have directed the FNFC to support,
protect, reconcile, and advance Aboriginal Title and Rights and Treaty Rights
as they relate to fisheries and the health and protection of aquatic resources.

collaborative relationships among First Nations organizations, and work
together to build a united voice on fisheries matters.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Plan and implement Water for Fish meetings, webinars and workshops.
• Participate in a research project to assess indigenous water governance; may
include distributing on-line surveys, conducting telephone interviews,
conducting a literature review, and developing research database
• Draft and edit a variety of written materials: project reports, grants and
proposals, correspondence, technical and policy briefing notes, discussion
papers, and communications materials (blog or newsletter articles, etc.).
• Provide general support for the Water for Fish initiative – e.g.
administration, reporting, communications
• Support other FNFC programs where necessary.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
• Bachelor Degree in biology, environmental sciences, natural resource
management, geography, or a related field of study is required.
• Direct work experience and interdisciplinary experience in freshwater is an
asset.
• Experience working with BC First Nations communities and/or First Nations
organizations is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task, set priorities effectively and problem
solve, including early identification of issues/problems that may arise.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with ability to interact
professionally with a wide range of individuals and organizations.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and commitment to high
quality work.
• Excellent communication skills – oral, written, proof reading, etc.
• Knowledge of MS Office is required– Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel
(particularly Excel).
• Knowledge of Nation Builder, coding (HTML/CSS), webinars, and Google Docs an
asset.

TERMS:
Period of employment: 26 weeks (6 months)
Wage: $20/hour
Hours: 35-hr work week
JOB LOCATION:
The FNFC office is located at 320 – 1200 West 73rd Ave., Vancouver BC. Office
hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Some travel and flexible work
hours will be required.
