We are a business
with a social objective working at the crossroads of solar energy and financial
inclusion to make efficient, high-quality sustainable energy solutions available
to off-grid Tanzanians. We are developing sales and marketing techniques,
management systems, a distribution network, and a financing program—all
coordinated by an innovative IT system—to efficiently deliver rent-to-own solar
energy to customers living off the grid. We focus on the areas of the value
chain where energy technology companies are struggling the most and require
on-the-ground operational capacity.

Mission for
this post

We are looking for a
detail-orientated Technical Manager to develop and manage our mobile phone
network connected rent-to-own domestic and business solar home systems. The
role of the Technical Manager also involves the planning, direction and
integration of payment methods using mobile money with our rent-to-own systems.
Finally you will assist EGG-energy in its ongoing use of technology to support
almost every area of our business model from the use of tablets for customer
presentations and smart phones for data collection from initial prospect
information through credit assessments to final system installation.

You will work
closely with the CEO and COO to design and implement our technical and ICT
strategies and activities according to strict deadlines and within budget. This
includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and
third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver results according to
the plan. You will be based in Dar with some travel to the Regions we operate
in.

We are growing fast
and we review our staffing structure on a regular basis in order to ensure that
it meets our needs most effectively. Job descriptions may need to be amended as
new projects start and more people are recruited. This may result in new
responsibilities being taken on, responsibilities being passed on to others and
line management being transferred.

Experience/Skills/Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree
    in relevant field of study
  • Minimum
    two years supervisory and management experience
  • Two
    years direct work experience in an ICT project management capacity,
    including all aspects of process development and execution
  • Experience
    in managing and motivating teams with a demonstrated track record in
    building the capacity of individuals and groups and performance management
  • Experience
    and skills in product sourcing, validation, assessment or testing
  • Demonstrated
    ICT management skills and ability to prepare, manage and monitor budgets
  • Excellent
    oral and written English.
  • Excellent
    communication skills with the ability to engage and interact with people
    at all levels
  • Knowledge
    and enthusiasm of solar energy and the renewables sector
  • Excellent
    IT skills including strong familiarity with proprietary software and
    demonstrable experience

Duties and
Responsibilities

Mobile
Connected Solar Home Systems – Product Management (50%)

  • Test,
    validate, and improve hardware solar home system units provided by
    multiple vendors for both domestic and business use.
  • Test,
    validate, and improve software systems for solar home system units
    provided by our vendors for both domestic and business use
  • Look
    for new product partners and assist CEO and COO in determining future
    product strategy for EGG-energy.
  • Specify
    maintenance and servicing standards and procedures for EGG-energy solar
    systems.
  • Specify
    installation standards and procedures for EGG-energy solar systems.
  • Establish
    resource requirement to fulfil installation, maintenance and servicing
    standards both directly employed and contracted out
  • Organize,
    design and assist in the delivering of both solar hardware and software
    training for EGG-energy and contract Technicians.
  • Organize,
    design and assist in the delivering of training for EGG-energy and
    contract Technicians on proper solar installation, safety, maintenance and
    customer service.
  • Ensure
    that directly employed Technicians are collecting all necessary data in
    the field and that it is accurately entered onto smart phones/tablets and
    downloaded immediately to head office for processing, analysis, corrective
    action, etc.
  • Ensure
    safe and secure working environment for field based Technicians
  • To
    assist COO to ensure there are always sufficient stock to fulfil
    installation and maintenance of solar home systems.
  • Ensure
    regular communication with the field based Technicians and contractors
  • Develop
    and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and
    presentations with regard to installation and maintenance of solar home
    systems
  • Determine
    the frequency and content of status reports from the technical teams,
    analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
  • Proactively
    manage changes in technical activity, identify potential crises, and
    devise contingency plans
  • Coach,
    mentor, and motivate technical team members, partners and contractors,
    andinfluence them to take positive action and accountability for their
    assigned work
  • Build,
    develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the
    technical component of EGG-energy’s business
  • Proactively
    analyse customer solar home system diagnostic data and instigate
    corrective action to mitigate system failure or distress.


Information
Technology (40%)

  • Develop
    and maintain mobile applications used to oversee EGG sales, credit
    assessments, installation, and maintenance processes
  • Develop
    interface of EGG-energy systems with mobile money providers to match
    customer systems with monthly payments
  • Collect
    and analyse data coming from EGG-energy mobile applications and installed
    systems, and find ways to use this to improve our business processes
  • Assist
    with the development and implement of ICT strategy for rapid scale up in
    support of sales of rent-to-own solar home systems
  • Constantly
    strive to improve, amend and adapt ICT operations where necessary to
    maximise performance and exceed expectations

HR Management
(5%)

  • Support
    the Technical and IT Teams as directed by the CEO and COO

Other (5%)

  • Other
    duties may be required from time to time, including responsibilities which
    require work on weekends and holidays
