 The
Opportunity: DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Reporting
to the Director Regional Operations, the Winnipeg based DM is responsible for
the securement of major gifts to support conservation and other program goals.
The primary sources for major gifts may include corporations, individuals, and
private or public foundations. Revenue generation through donor prospecting,
qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of these supporter
relationships is the core position responsibility. Effective administration of
gifts that ensure donor satisfaction is also important. The DM will develop an
implementation plan for their major gift portfolio including forecasting and
budgeting based on conservation program needs and will work as part of an
integrated team with senior volunteers and other provincial conservation and
fundraising staff and national staff to generate and track revenue.
 Key
Result Areas
  • Generate
    major gift revenue to support organizational program goals
  • Build
    long-term sustainable relationships with donors that result in the
    generation of gifts over $10,000.
  • Develop
    and maintain a close working relationship with the senior Provincial
    Fundraising Volunteers, Manager Provincial Operations, Director Regional
    Operations, Senior Development Managers and conservation program staff.
  • Maintain
    a working relationship with internal and external stakeholders including
    conservation and marketing staff donors, DUC Senior Managers, provincial
    DUC Board members and core volunteers.
  • Develop
    long term relationships with partners and supporters with the explicit
    intent to share information/resources, steward donors and advance the
    business goals of both groups
  • Integrate
    and coordinate staff within various DUC programs for the purpose of
    generating funding proposals.
  • Provide
    in-depth mentoring, coaching, and training on fundraising procedures and
    objectives to volunteers and staff
  • Accurately
    track progress toward goals in conjunction with the MPO/DRO and other development
    support staff.
  • Fully
    understand and utilize the DUC proprietary donor database and Donor
    Activity Management software.
Qualifications:
The Person Required
Qualifications:
  • Minimum
    3 years of program leadership and staff/volunteer management experience
    ideally with a strong fundraising, marketing and/or scientific background
    specifically in membership management, direct marketing, list acquisition
    and/or donor stewardship.
  • University
    degree in science, business, commerce, marketing or natural resources with
    proven sales and customer service abilities. Equivalent combination of
    education and experience in related fields will also be considered.
  • Passion
    for the outdoors in some capacity is required. Personal interest and/or
    experience in conservation, environmental issues and/or sporting
    activities is beneficial. A network of like-minded individuals
    and organizations/corporations would be an asset.
  • The
    CFRE designation with the Association of Fundraising Professionals is also
    an asset in this position.
