Director of People & Business Services
Salary: £80,000
Reading
Guide Dogs bring independence and mobility to blind and partially-sighted people. This could be through the guide dog service, which is at the core of our activities, campaigning for the rights of those with visual impairments, educating the public about eye health, funding research to prevent sight loss as well as providing a range of other services for blind and partially-sighted adults and children.
A year into our ambitious 10 year strategy, ‘Building Extraordinary Partnerships’ we have set ourselves challenging objectives which include expanding our range of mobility services and reaching thousands more blind and partially-sighted people. Successful delivery of this strategy relies heavily on our people – more than 1,000 employees and 10,000 volunteers.
The Director of People & Business Services is a recently created role that is central in leading Guide Dogs through significant organisational and cultural change to ensure its strategy becomes reality.
Reporting to the Chief Executive and a key member of our Executive Board, the Director of People & Business Services will lead the strategy for our people management (both staff and volunteers) and a range of related business services incorporating Human Resources, Volunteering, Diversity, Safeguarding, Information Services, Health & Safety, Property, Facilities, Fleet Management, Knowledge Management and Business Continuity.
An exceptional leader and experienced HR professional, you will bring substantial expertise in strategic planning and implementation, and a demonstrable track record in delivering change initiatives. You will be an excellent communicator with strong motivational skills, who has the ability to lead organisational and cultural change and drive excellence across a broad agenda that goes beyond a traditional HR remit.
You may have gained your experience in the voluntary, statutory or commercial sectors, but – most importantly – you will be enthused about the work we do and engaged with our vision, purpose and values.

Guide Dogs is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children, young people and vulnerable adults with whom we work. We expect all of our employees and volunteers to fully share this commitment.
Guide Dogs welcomes applications from all sections of the community and actively encourages diversity to maximise achievements, creativity and good practice. Applications are always welcome from blind or partially-sighted people.
