Background Oxfam’s purpose is to work with others to overcome poverty and suffering around the world. In Rwanda we run an exciting country programme that supports smallholder farmers, particularly women farmers, to engage in more profitable activities in the horticulture sector through facilitating access to finance, supporting technological development and innovation, and building beneficial partnerships between farmers and the private sector. We also support the participation of farmers in policy and planning processes at local levels that affect their livelihoods, as well as working to improve women’s social and economic status within their communities.

Business Director (REF RWABD2011) – We require a strong Business Director to provide quality strategic and operational management and planning within the Rwanda programme. This role will oversee all support services as well as holding overall financial management responsibility. Working closely with the Programme Managers the post holder will ensure quality of accounting, timely production of donor reports, and oversee all day-to-day financial operations. The post holder will be required to capacity-build and strengthen the knowledge of the team and partners they are working with to improve the quality of financial and systems processes over time. The post is a member of the country management team.

What we are looking for You will have substantial expertise in the application of strategic financial management and experience in maximising resource utilisation; you should be a professionally qualified finance manager, preferably with some experience in INGO settings, and with the ability to influence and support colleagues in appreciating the importance of financial standards, procedures and controls; familiarity of working with donors and budgets. You will also need strong leadership and capacity building skills, influencing skills, and good communication skills including the ability to provide high-quality reports in written English with a good level of verbal and written French. You must be able to manage staff working on logistics, IT and administration to ensure a strong programme support function within the country programme.
