Akilah is developing
a model for a network of campuses across Africa that will offer
transformational business education for young women. Students are prepared to
succeed as leaders and entrepreneurs by completing a rigorous 2-year Diploma in
Business that includes a longer school year, mandatory community service,
leadership & ethics courses, internships, and a personalized counseling
program. 

Akilah develops market-relevant curriculum in close partnership with
the private sector to ensure job placement. Student-run social enterprises
ensure financial sustainability of the organization and offer experiential
business learning opportunities for students.

Akilah has
successfully completed two academic years and now in our third year, we are
experiencing overwhelming interest from potential future students, and strong
support from the private sector, our students’ future employers. Akilah has
developed a reputation in the Rwandan community for creating an environment of
excellence that prepares students to succeed in a professional career path
while emphasizing leadership development and entrepreneurial skills. Akilah
offers a 2-year Business Diploma, with a major in either Hospitality Management
or Entrepreneurship.

The Role

Akilah is searching
for an energetic and experienced HR manager to play a key role in the
development of our team and faculty, and create a vibrant organizational
culture. The HR Manager will be the trusted partner of the Principal on all people
related matters. We are looking for a qualified HR professional and/or
substantial HR generalist with experience including recruitment and selection,
performance management, learning and development, reward and employee
relations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan
    and direct activities of staff in carrying out such functions as
    developing sources of qualified applicants, screening applicants,
    scheduling and conducting interviews, checking references and background,
    and evaluating applicant qualifications.
  • Develop
    and maintain internal job posting program.
  • Responsible
    for maintaining personnel files for all staff – including recruitment
    documents, CVs, valid contracts, timesheets, employee data sheets,
    disciplinary papers and performance evaluations:
  • Ensure
    Akilah personnel policies strictly adhere to Rwandan labour law as
    applicable. The includes payment of appropriate taxes, benefits etc.;
  • Ensure
    Salaries and benefits adhere to Akilah salary scales and standing
    protocols:
  • Maintain
    a tracking system for all types of leave of all employees;
  • Oversee
    the monthly procedure of timesheets for all staff including collection,
    review and compilation into payroll; train new staff on timesheet
    procedure;
  • Process
    monthly payroll in conjunction with Payroll finance staff and ensure
    payroll is delivered in a timely manner to all staff;
  • Implement
    and direct new employee orientation programs including completing
    appropriate forms, staff introductions, review of the personnel manual and
    policies and procedures, explanation and discussion of job
    responsibilities, and orientation to the agency and specific department.
  • Distribute
    bi-weekly payroll to staff; Monitor accumulation of employee accrued
    vacation and sick time, in conjunction with the CFO; Direct implementation
    and administration of employee benefit programs
  • Responsible
    for the orientation of all new, national staff on Akilah systems, policies
    and procedures;
  • Advise
    staff on disciplinary procedures; raise policies and procedures
  • Assist
    E.D. in conducting or arranging for trainings and/or other human resource
    development activities;
  • Participate
    in disciplinary, hiring and termination meetings with program staff upon
    request;
  • Other
    duties as assigned.

Criteria

• HR leadership
experience across multiple countries with experience of working within a
complex and matrix organization structure.

• Demonstrable track
record of leading substantial change – maximizing benefits and minimizing
risks.

• Cultural
sensitivity, with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
including influencing, negotiation and coaching.

• Experience of
building, leading and developing staff with different backgrounds and
expertise.

• Experience of
building personal networks at senior levels, resulting in securing significant
new opportunities for the organization.

• Experience of
solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and
ensuring buy in.

• Commitment to
