Nutritional status is an indicator of food security for donors and media, and a critical input for comprehensive food security analysis. Improved early warning related nutrition is vital to inform programme planning and prevent it from being unprepared in a nutrition crisis. With the partnership of FEWS NET (Famine Early Warning Systems
Network) and Chemonics, ACF UK was deemed partner of choice to better access and integrate nutrition information.

The collaboration has four major elements:
1) Fully integrate nutrition into analyses framework and core monitoring and assessment plan
2) Link to existing surveillance systems and address un-met emergency information needs
3) Build analytical capability
4) Integrate nutrition into decision support

ACF’s role will be to develop and integrate nutrition early warning systems into FEWS NET through the analysis and use of indicators while also providing and developing nutrition guidance documentation and providing leadership in the expanded use of a nutrition security scale. The scope of the role will cover both East and West Africa however this will be used as a basis for the rest of the world.
