The purpose of the
role is to work collaboratively, as part of the TLD, to develop and implement a
strategy to raise student standards in literacy by focusing on student thinking
and learning, and on explicit teaching. The main focus of this strategy is to
improve literacy pedagogy through regular and ongoing teacher development to
build a significant and sustainable improvement in the learning outcomes of
students.
The role is to
support schools, with the role holder providing a source of specialised advice
and professional support in early years literacy teaching practices as part of
the Teaching and Learning Directorate Strategy. The role is also to focus on
the continuation of the Reading Improvement Strategy – Prep to Year 4.
Key result
areas
Contribute
to and promote the development, alignment, attainment and review of the
strategic goals for the Diocese of Toowoomba Catholic Schools (TCS) and the
Teaching and Learning Directorate (TLD) Strategy.
Work
collaboratively with members of the TLD and other relevant key role holders to
develop and deliver policy and strategic directions in Literacy in the Early
Years strategies for TCS schools within the broader context of the Teaching and
Learning Directorate Strategy, including the Reading Improvement Strategy P –
Year 4.
Design
and develop a range of digital professional learning and classroom resources to
support teachers in implementing the Literacy in the Early Years
strategies.
Provide
expert advice in Literacy in the Early Years within the TLD and schools based
on contemporary research, system and school data and through professional
relationships with experts and associations.
Contribute
to the development of a professional learning community in the TLD fulfilling
reporting and other accountabilities as required.
Complete
other duties that are directed as needs change or grow, if the duties are
consistent with the purpose of this position and any relevant legal and/or
industrial obligations.
Experience
and Qualifications
Essential:
- Tertiary
qualification in education and a minimum of 5 years experience in teaching
or 3 years experience in a similar role. - Hold,
or be eligible to hold, registration as a teacher in Queensland. - Effective
relationship building and influencing skills. - Demonstrated
experience working with the Microsoft suite of products. - Advanced
interpersonal and communication skills. - Empathy
with the values and ethos of the Catholic faith.
Desirable:
- Coaching
and/or Leadership experience in an educational setting. - Interest
and/or experience in Literacy in the Early Years strategies.
