JOB TITLE: Internal Auditor
REPORTS TO: Head of Internal Audit
MISSION STATEMENT FOR INTERNAL AUDIT DEPARTMENT

Internal Audit’s mission is to provide the Bank with a high quality and cost effective internal audit and consultancy service designed to support the achievement of Urwego Opportunity Bank’s overall objectives.

The mission will be accomplished by:
• Performing independent assessments of the bank’s departments, of systems controls and efficiency, guided by professional standards and using best practice approaches
• Advising on all aspects of security in the Bank
• Providing fraud prevention, detection and investigation services.
• Supporting our customers’ (the Bank) efforts to achieve their objectives.
• Maintaining a dynamic, team-oriented environment, that encourages personal and professional growth and challenges and encouraging our employees towards excelling and reaching their full potential.

MAJOR AREAS OF PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT:
• Timely completion of various audit assignments without compromising the quality of the work

• retaining the respect of other departments

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Examine and assess the risk management process of the entire bank and report the findings
• Review and examine the established internal control systems, policies and procedures and reveal the strength and weaknesses of the systems to management of the bank
• Perform regular compliance reviews of operations based on the perceived risks
• Carry out Fraud Investigations and report promptly the findings and conclusions to authorized parties.
• Provide the professional and independent advises to management of the bank. For instance the improvement of risk management process and adherence to internal and external regulatory requirements.
• Participate in the preparation and maintenance of an annual audit plan for audit department
• Properly prepare and securely conserve the audit working papers with valid evidences of findings for any audit and investigation activities conducted.
• Prepare and submit audit findings and make recommendations to management,
• Backing up the Head of Internal Audit when is absent on the work.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a business related subject, preferably in accountancy, from a reputable University.
• Minimum of 2 or more years experience in audit, preferably internal Audit from a microfinance, banking or financial institution,
• Professional qualification completed or under progress (ACCA , CPA, CIMA etc),
• Good Experience in using Risk Based Audit approach,
• Good experience in information technology systems audit.

Knowledge and Skills:
• Having a good back ground and understanding of International Standards of Auditing and International Accounting Standards
• Experience in auditing and evaluating business operations including sustainability, efficiency, budget and overhead control, profitability and default management
• Ability to monitor and assess achievements against performance targets, quality standards and service agreements that aligns with UOB business plan.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and work under demanding conditions with many interruptions.

• Utilizing Business Knowledge, Understanding and Using Technology, Complying with and Applying Appropriate Professional Standards of Audit Methodologies.
• Ability to quickly adapt to new technology and computer systems
