staff complement of approximately 94 staff. SC is implementing an emergency
response programme to support the Burundi refugees in Mahama Refugee Camp.

PURPOSE OF
POSITION:

The Medical Doctor
–Psychiatrist will work to contribute to an improvement in the overall mental
health of the targeted Refugee population in Mahama Camp through the provision
of quality primary health care with Mental Health fully integrated. The
Psychiatrist will work collaboratively with the health team; Ministry of Health
staff and partners to meet the mental health needs of patients, promote healthy
behaviors, strengthen health systems and increase local capacity.

KEY AREAS OF
ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Responsible
    for the general running of the OPD Mental Health Diagnosis and treatment
    as per MOH/WHO guidelines.
  • Review
    all patients  requiring Mental Health  referral to secondary
    level Health facilities for further management
  • Supervise
    Provision Comprehensive Mental Health Care to refugees in Mahama Camp and
    link them to available services both clinical and psychosocial.
  • To
    Ensure  Consultant (Medical Doctors & Nurses) are providing
    quality Mental  health care service  provision in an integrated
    approach as per  MOH protocols
  • Monitor
    Mental illness  in Mahama Refugee Camp trends through review of
    weekly and monthly morbidity data generated from the clinic
  • Advice
    Medical staff on monthly drug use to avoid drug ruptures and misuse.
  • Together
    with PHC Nurses, Nurse Assistant and Midwives , review and analyze all
    compiled data before submission to the  Management, MoH or WHO
  • In
    additional to the above listed responsibilities the Medical
    Doctor-Psychiatrist will also be responsible for any other duty deemed
    necessary by the Line Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS
AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

  1. A
    qualified Medical Doctor with Psychiatry & Tropical Medicine
    experience, registered / licensed by medical practitioners board
  2. Experience
    in working in Primary Health Care and health center/hospital setting.
  3. Experience
    working with international NGO.
  4. Excellent
    liaison abilities and good communication skills (French, Kiswahili and
    English preferred).
  5. Experience
    in training of Health workers in clinical and rational prescription of
    drugs
  6. Willingness
    to work in resource poor environment and be culturally sensitive.
  7. Ability
    to produce reports in English
  8. Ability
    to work in a remote area and in context of limited resources.
  9. Experience
    managing  Referral of  psychiatric patients  from Primary
    Health Care centres to secondary level facilities

Desirable

  • Language
    skills in Kinyarwanda,  French and Swahili
  • An
    area of particular expertise within humanitarian health
  • Experience
    of working on HIV programmes
  • Specific
    experience of working in consortia projects.
