Pope Francis arrived late on Sunday at St. Peter’s Square for his weekly address, explaining that he had been stuck in a Vatican elevator for 25 minutes and had to be released by firefighters.
“I have to beg your pardon,” the smiling Pontiff said about 10 minutes late when he began his address.
He then clarified that there was a issue with electrical power in the Vatican and that he was stuck in the elevator until Vatican fire officers released him.
“A round of applause for the fire brigade,” he told the crowd.
