Vision Rwanda seeks to hire a highly qualified, dedicated and experienced
national for the position of Social Worker. The position will be based
in one of the refugee camps: Gihembe, Nyabiheke, Kigeme, Mugombwa or Kiziba
and reporting to the Camp Education Coordinator
of the position:
purpose of the post is to effectively implem
ent and respond to the psychosocial
needs of School-going age children within and outside one of the 5 Refugee
Camps of Gihembe, Nyabiheke, Kigeme, Mugombwa and Kiziba. The candidate
will lead in the implementation and monitoring of children with special needs,
provide support to ECD and school feeding, as well as ensuring that all issues
relating to school-going age refugee children in and outside the refugee camp
are timely reported to the Camp Coordinator. The role will also
include providing accurate data relating to the numbers of children attending
ECDs, children with special needs and school feeding as well as numbers of
children dropping out of school both in primary and secondary schools within
and outside the Camp.
Social Worker will take the lead in providing child protection support services
in the camp. S/he will participate in all coordination and coalitions with
other partners in Charge of Child protection such as Plan International and
Save the Children together with the Management of schools.
major responsibilities include:
Education Support
- Coordinate
all activities related to Early Childhood Education (ECE) - Support
ECD caregivers and liaise with them to report children’s attendanceon a
daily basis - Distribute
scholastic materials and uniforms to children in school - Provide
support to children in primary and secondary education including
reportingstudent’s attendance and drop out - Support
children in school of excellency by collaborating with their schools to
meet their needs - Conduct
counselling sessions for all refugee children with psychosocial problems. - Support
inestablishing and reinforcing the school clubs - Conduct
sensitization meetings for students on the importance of education - Support
in career guidance for children in Primary and Secondary schools
feeding Facilitation
- Provide
support to school feeding of ECD, Primary and secondary school children - Ensure
timely transfers of money for feeding students in secondary school. - Liaise
with school head teachers and ECD care givers to ensure refugee children
get food and provide report on school feeding issues on a daily basis with
suggestions on how to mitigate those issues
protection
- Liaise
with other child protection partners in the camp to prevent, mitigate and
respond to children’s risks - Do
regular reportingon the progress ofpsychosocial and child protection
support services - Participate
in child protection(CP) meetings - Should
be the schools focal person in preventing, mitigating and responding to
child abuse, violence, exploitation and neglect.

Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
following knowledge, skills and abilities may be acquired through a combination
of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training.
- Bachelor’s
Degree in Education. - At
least 3 years Professional experience (of which 1 year is in Education in
emergency).1 Year of experience working with Refugee Communities will be
an advantage. - Demonstrated
experience in Early Childhood Education, - Demonstrated
experience in working with school going age children including children
with special needs. - Strong
understanding of Refugee operational context - Experience
in working with and coordinating with Primary and Secondary schools and
other stakeholders implementing child protection program and Special needs
Education - Strong
interpersonal, intercultural and communication skills - Excellent
analytical and written skills, and good computer skills - Fluency
in English, with strong English writing skills. - Additional
qualities: ability to multi-task, ability to handle pressure well, ability
to improvise, flexibility, adaptability to transition
